He was a beast tonight no matter what the haters say

It's hard to find reasons to not like Luke Schenn. He's doing all the grit grind, stand tall, leadership and stability stuff and you're not at a disadvantage with turnovers, his breakouts have been simple and clean and isn't any slower than any D out there.

One guy I'm not loving is Giordano this past week. Find his little regroups to be a bit out of sync and when he's using the end wall the puck's spraying around at unpredictable angles.

You have two Gophers that lost in the national championship (2014 and 2023). Get them a ring and their names on the Cup.
You're absolutely right, MASSSSSSSIVE shout to Knies for being all over the rink tonight! Winning races, winning battles, finishing hits, keeping guys to the outside, and generating chances! What a gamer!

LET'S GO! MORGAN RIELLY! Takes abuse all year and delivers the OT GWG!

And what a battle back by Samsonov. Garbage in the first, but battled back, and came up with some huge saves.

THAT is what we've been missing in all of our other OTs. Weak goals on early shots have killed us. Your goalie makes a save in OT (and leading up to it), it's giving your team a chance to win, and that's what we saw tonight.

O'Rielly is an absolute beast and the best deadline addition in the Matthews era. Just an absolute warrior.

If we had won a single OT in either of the last two playoffs, we would have won the series. We got home ice back, in a game where we didn't have our mojo and Lightning threw everything at us. Now let's crush them in the next game and win it back home.

No mercy.

I said this in the what is Morgan Rielly thread in February…no link go find it on page 5 of that said thread.

A lower end #1 who’s elite on the breakout and an elite passer. Historically, he’s also been very good in the playoffs as well.

But he has no shot, is only sporadically physical, and if he was putting points up at his usual rate would be signed to an okay deal dollar wise but with too much term.

Even before his deal what is his value? A 1st, a 4th, a B-level prospect and a 4D or middle six forward who makes a little too much money. You’re gonna have to hit on that first or it’s a bad trade.

I love Mo, but he has always had his shortcomings and his play this year has been unacceptable.

Whatever he is we’re stuck with him

And look at that.

3-1-4-5, +5, 22:57 average TOI (bolstered by 28+ tonight).

The hit on Point was subtly dirty but not egregious.

Career playoffs: 65-5-37-42.

Continue.

That was all Luke Schenn. Leafs were playing stupid all OT. Every single one of them.

Then Schenn comes out and cools everything down with the nice shot-for-tip. Leads to the faceoff that ends the game. Tampa's momentum died after Schenn's play because the play almost ended the game.

Thank god.

Now hit the drawing board and figure out how to get your best player the puck. Disgrace

Tampa is an easy opponent for us this series is going to be a win. I'm concerned about round 2 the way things are going.
I like how you are thinking
