Not to be forgotten in all of this, we now have a 5 game winning streak, and we're right back in the playoff race, 1 point behind the two NY teams.

I know the initial narrative about Wilson and Backstrom being on the road with the team was them getting closer to returning, but seeing these Locker Room clips on ESPN makes me wonder if they were travelling simply to be there when Ovie hit 800/801/802.
Well it could be both but the glass half full opinion yeah it was for the 800/801.

Sportsnet had the wrong math. Below is the correct games for Ovie:

0-100 goals | 167 games
100-200 goals | 129 games
200-300 goals | 177 games
300-400 goals | 161 games
400-500 goals | 167 games
500-600 goals | 189 games
600-700 goals | 154 games
700-800 goals | 161 games

In honor of Ovie and #800, here's a little history of his milestone goals.

#100 came on a first period PP from Green and Poti and was the only Caps goal in a 3-1 loss to the Rangers in MSG on Oct 12, 2007. The goalie was Henrik Lundqvist. Fun fact: after winning their first 3 games of the 07-08 season, this loss started a 3-14-1 stretch that ended with Glen Hanlon being replaced with Bruce Boudreau.

#200 was an unassisted third period goal as part of a comeback that came up short for a 5-4 loss against the Kings on Feb 5, 2009. It was his only point in the game. The goalie was Jonathan Quick.

#300 came on the PP from Laich and Sturm in the first period of a 3-2 SO win in Toronto on April 5, 2011. It was his only point in that one, and he didn't score on his SO attempt (credit Mike Knuble with the SO winner for that one). The goalie was James Reimer.

#400 was an ENG from Backstrom and Erat to secure a 4-2 win in Carolina on Dec 20, 2013. It was his only goal, and he had an earlier assist.

#500 was a 2nd period PPG from Chimera and Burakovsky as part of a 7-1 home romp against the Senators on Jan 10, 2016. He notched #501 at ES later in that one. I was at that game, I remember it being a party from start to finish. The goalie was Andrew Hammond.

#600 came from Wilson and Kuzy in the second period of a 3-2 OT home win over the Jets on Mar 12, 2018. That was his second goal of the night, having picked up #599 on a 5-on-3 PP in the first period. The goalie was Connor Hellebuyck.

#700 was from Kuzy and Jensen in the 3rd period of a 3-2 loss in New Jersey on Feb 22, 2020. That one was his only point in the game and capped off a comeback from down 2-0, but a couple penalties in a row late in the third handed it to the Devils. The goalie was Mackenzie Blackwood.

Its OT but seeing the caps banner background get towed off behind Alan May during the NBCSN post game (aka monumental at this point) is amateur hour.

Edit: I see it was for Lavi's postgame but still live on air dragging that away feels novice.

Someone performed brain surgery on me to make me forget that Marco Sturm was a Washington Capital.
Yeah, some of the names you read looking through those old game logs feel like they're from another life.

Here's a trivia question for anyone who likes this sort of thing: who are the three players who've played in an Ovechkin milestone game as both Ovie's teammate and as his opponent? Pretty sure it's just these three, no guarantees though.

Answer:
Alex Semin, Mikhail Grabovski, and Matt Hendricks

Alright lesson learned, don’t let these donkeys call his record breaking game. Just have Joe B on standby to sign a game by game contract with ESPN/TNT or whatever when ovi gets close to the record

And man, Levy could have made a decent call on the goal if Chelios didn’t step all over it.

At least we have John Walton!
