After Hathaway's game last Saturday on national TV against the Bruins, I figured his value increased especially with eastern teams that see their playoffs having to go through Boston.

I 'm expecting a 2nd and 3rd round pick for him in general, but trading him within division would up the price a bit. I spitballed the idea a few days ago of trading Hathaway to the Rangers for the aforementioned 2nd and 3rd round picks but also since it's within division Rangers include Kravtsov and the Capitals add Mantha.

So Hathaway and Mantha to NYR for Kravtsov, 2nd and 3rd round pick. Realizing that this may not necessarily work with the cap, Capitals sweeten it by eating some of Mantha's salary.

Rangers hang up the phone if youre asking us to take on Mantha lol. Thats the Caps problem not ours.

He’s played in 8 games all season but has begun skating again. I don’t think it makes sense to trade Wilson. His absence is a big reason the Caps are struggling but his injuries this year would also diminish his value in a trade right now. Wilson is not a player the Caps should sell low on or except anything less than full asking price but it’s understandable if teams would be hesitant to pay that price for a guy who has played 8 games since April.
Wilson isn't going anywhere

Typical rags fan. Want everything for nothing. Good luck. You are not in a position to make demands, especially now that you have Tarasenko and only 2 players on your team that MAY be able to protect him.

Id trade a 2nd and a 3rd for Hathaway. That's an overpay in this market. Don't be mad at the Rangers for not wanting Mantha's garbage contract to take on a rental player. Your mad at your team, not at us. I forgive you though #OverpayforHathaway

Lol. I don’t think the Rangers have to take Mantha to get Hathaway.

I wish they would, but he’s a bag of assholes on the ice. Not surprised they would have no interest.

Pleasure doing business with you, and no thanks on the Crocodile Hunter, we already have a big, tall, physical (bad) 7D in Ben Harpur

I would kick the tires on Eller and Sheary. I doubt the caps would trade with us, but maybe those days are in the past.

This team is cooked, it’s over. Here’s what we have:

Orlov
Jensen
TVR
Eller
Hathaway

Also, someone please take Anthony Mantha. I just don’t think I can watch him play hockey any longer.
Boy it was not that long ago that the ask for Mantha was sky high.

Two weeks until the deadline and currently in a playoff spot.

I don’t see them as sellers.
Only because they've played more games than some of the teams behind them. Detroit and Buffalo both have a higher point percentage, and the Caps play each of them before the trade deadline. MoneyPuck puts their chances at 26.6% right now, and if they lose both of those I'd imagine they'd crater. They could easily be totally out of it by the deadline.

Would love Hathaway as an add for the playoffs and to replace Miles Wood, what's the price? Also would love Tom Wilson but the guy is hurt always now lol

Would love to add Hathaway and TVR to the Jets. What would the ask be?

I suspect Hathaway would net a 1st or a 2nd + B prospect. Teams would line up to get him on their rosters for the playoffs. TvR as a solid (and cheap) RHD who can play in your top four or anchor your third pair has good value too, but not sure what he’d go for. He’s already set a career high in goals this year and he’s going to set a career high in points as well.

I’d rather re-sign both of them but if that’s not an option they should be traded. You can have a discount on them if there’s a handshake deal to trade us Ehlers for a fair price at the draft.

Would be kind of funny to see them both on the Jets as Dillon, Schmidt, TvR, and Hathaway would all be former Caps on the same team.

Wilson is probably either going to return for the Stadium Series or the game after. If he resigns after next season they're probably giving him the C whenever Ovi retires to Dynamo Moscow for his final playing days in Russia. Quite frankly with the way the Caps have played the past two seasons when a chunk of their roster is the current Hershey bears, I wouldn't be shocked if they actually made it into the playoffs because they were sellers (not news to any other Caps fans). I could dream of them falling in the standings, winning the draft lottery, acquiring Boeser or Meier, getting rid of Mantha, signing Frank, selling Eller, calling acquiring a nice top 4 D, and having a scenario where Snively gets more playing time and actually stays hot, making a few adjustments in the offseason, and actually being a contender next year... but that scenario probably only exists in NHL 23 on someones xbox, and I'm not even sure if Ethen Frank is in that game.

Also I swear someone in the caps forum made a comment about wondering how long it take for someone to make a "value of" thread to pop up for the Caps.

If there is any way the Leafs could eke out more cap space, they should inquire on Orlov to round out the blueline.

Rielly - Orlov
Brodie - Holl
Giordano - Liljegren/Timmins
Sandin

They just decided to load up and go all in. They'll need all the help they can get to squeak past Tampa and Boston.

Dmitry Orlov is a beast every time I watch the Caps. I can't imagine y'all would let him go, no?
Same here. Every time the Devils play the Caps , I notice Orlov a lot. He always seems to make the right play
Id love him on my team and I’m sure every other team would want him as well.
He is going to get PAID on his next contract if he doesn’t stay in DC.
I can’t see the Caps letting him go unless he asks for a crazy amount of cash and/or term .

I’d love Orlov .
Devils would not be able to afford his next contract though and he would rightfully want more term than we could or should offer.
We need a place holder for Nemec until he is ready as Graves and Severson are likely gone , but no way Orlov will sign for what we could afford.
Hathaway would be another very nice addition .

Who is Ethen Frank?
What do you think the Caps do with their UFA defencemen? Try to keep all/some / none ? Which ones would be priority ?

Edit - Wow Frank looks like a keeper.

From what we've been able to tell, the two sides are not hung up on the AAV with Orlov, but the term. He's 31 and is probably looking for 7 or 8 years. The Caps are committed to finishing out the Ovechkin-Backstrom run and icing a team in those years with the intention of competing, but past that they are probably looking to begin some kind of rebuild. The tail end of Orlov's new contract probably edges into that rebuild phase.

I suspect they sign him and just lump it in the outyears, but it's not going to get done early. That could mean he's a guy teams ask about in the run up to the trade deadline, but I have to imagine the price would be steep.

If I had to guess, I'd say he re-signs for something like $7M x 8 years or $7.5M to $8M x 7 years. This is a really good player, no nonsense, steady, good wheels, very low maintenance too. Trade him and you might as well start dealing everyone, but we know they're not doing that as long as Ovechkin is playing and chasing the goals record.

Indeed and they can't sign him to a contract just yet due to the max. I want to see him in a Caps uniform asap.
