Prospect Info: Caps Top Prospects General Discussion Thread Vol. 2 - 2021-22

Just finished the SWE/GER game. 11-1 for the swedes.

I can see Miro playing in SC to start the year. They purposely brought him over to play in North America. I also think Sudz will be on third line. And I’d rather have Lappy as 2C and Limoges on wing.

Snively-Sgarbossa-Frank
Veccicone-Lapierre-Phillips
Suzdalev-Hofer-Limoges
Dube-Sutter-Rybinski

Limoges can play center. Hofer can play 4LW. Maybe Dube is third line since he doesn’t really fit 4th line. I like splitting Sgarbossa and Veccicone so veteran presence on both lines but maybe they re-unite with Frank.

Two things for sure. Caps are trying to get their top prospects in the NA game this year even if SC. There are lots of options and competition.

I also hope their are some trades even beyond the always talked about Mantha and Kuzy for nothing else but to create roster space (and get draft capital while at it).
I'd say there's almost no chance that Suzdalev makes Hershey over Miro. Physically they are in two completely different tiers right now and that's what's likely going to determine their AHL time. Suzdalev has three options, NHL, AHL and WHL per recent reports. If those are his options Miros are probably NHL/AHL. He gains nothing by playing in SC. There's a reason why virtually no first rounders have gone the ECHL route and become stars in the NHL. It's basically a goalie development league and everyone else save a few diamonds in the rough are career AHL fodder.

Agree…..wouldn‘t Miro just head home if he can’t make the Bears?

Physically though, is there really that much of a separation between the two today, or is it just that Miro is a little more battle tested against men?

Poh-toh-mack, Maryland getting a shoutout on the USA Hlinka game.

Getting PP time and touches for Suzdalev and Miro are key for their skill development. Even if there are maybe depth spots open in Hershey will there be PP time for both? Seems less obvious.

Some of Hershey's forward numbers game is due to Helmer stocking up further but even if there are one or two waiver losses (say Phillips) they're very overstocked. Even moreso given that it's at least currently unlikely Washington will even be able to carry a 22 or 23 player roster for cap reasons unless Pacioretty or someone else starts on LTIR.

Did we not just see rookie first rounder Hendrix Lapierre healthy scratched throughout the season due to inconsistent play? They are rookies, there’s going to be growing pains from Miro, Sudzy, Hofer etc. There’s a plan in place, most likely a rotation of forwards, or else they wouldn’t have signed all these guys

Yes, it would be ridiculous for a first rounder with as much talent as him to jump the pond after buying out his KHL contract to suit up in the ECHL. I'd say physically a good 25-30lbs difference between the two. Also in comparing their style of play, one shys away from contact the other seeks it out. I think if it comes down to one or the other in Hershey this year the clear choice is Miro for that if nothing else.

In before someone screams “only ONE goal??? He’s a BUST!!!”

Who won? I guess I could Google it

The system only goes 24th to 22nd after that draft. Ouch
Pronman didn't like Cristal before the draft and still thinks he's a longshot to be a regular NHLer. In fact when he listed the 20 best still available for day 2 of the draft at the conclusion of day 1 he didn't even have Cristal listed. I was shocked. He's one of the very few draft analyst who didn't like him. He also underrates Miro every time he writes about him. No surprise we didn't move much.

Despite Pronman's opinions, his overall ranking of the Caps system isn't that far removed from others'. Yahoo has the Caps at 19. Hockey Prospecting at 22. Elite Prospects hasnt released their 2023 pre-season yet.
