Caps Roster General Discussion (Coaching/FAs/Cap/Lines/etc) | 2024-25 Summer Edition

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

In the meantime, feel free to join our Discord Server

Hey y’all, I’m a Bruins Fan but come in peace. Goodluck this postseason. Can’t wait to see Ovi break the record and follow up with a cup!

I’m curious about your roster future, considering how many great top 9 (more like top6 honestly) centers you have - PLD, Strome, McMichaels and Protass being natural centers, and Leonard incoming.

With Protass signed long term for cheap (calling it, this will be considered the best contract in hockey for years to come), could McMichaels get traded before he goes to RFA next summer? Strome? What do you see the most likely scenario being if they wanted to have a natural winger, and grab say Ehlers or Boeser, or even Marner this summer?Just seems like there is an opportunity, especially with Leonard’s trajectory, to make some extra room to sign Chychrun or whatever, to capitalize on moving someone in the short term.

Cheers

This website is cooked longterm unfortunately. Every regular poster is from like 10-20 years ago with pretty much no new arrivals. It's a pity because I much prefer the forum thread layout to the Reddit or twitter layout. It's pretty much impossible to have a conversation in those places.

Enjoy HF while we can guys.

If there’s someone in the current top-6 to move it’s probably McMichael, but I don’t think nor he or Protas are viewed as centers in the NHL right now. I’d been beating the Marner-drum all season long because I think he’d be a perfect fit with Strome on that 1st line long term.

I don't think the book is closed whether or not McM is a center or not. He always played better in the middle so the fact he's picked it up on the wing is good. Been pretty lucky on our center health this season.

With Protas he's just so good on the boards but I could see him being pressed emergency C duty.

Oh I think it’s closed….they tried him again and quickly abandoned that….again.

Maybe on a bad team where they can just gift him top-6 C spot….at the NHL-level so far, he’s been decidedly better at W.

Disagree sincerely. Wasn't lack of success at the center position 'relegated' McM to the wing.

I think Caps are committed to Lappy at 3C. He will NOT be waivers exempt next year so he’ll have to make an impact. If Lappy fails we either need to go get a 3C or put McMichael there.

I also think there is a world where we resign Beauvillier. But i would want to know he is a backup for 3C as well. Then you can have Beau or McMike play 3C and one play 2LW. Or Miro, Cristal. Assume Leonard on the right.

And i can definitely see McMichael as a Center again later in his career regardless of Lappy.

No chance I would be thinking about changing Connor McMichael’s position in his breakout season

He can do spot duty in case of an injury, but I would not make them full-time at this point in his career

I hope Lappy is ready to go next year. I could see him, and Leonard having some chemistry. It could be a fun “kid line” that would get sheltered as need be.

If Lappy isn’t it, I think they go outside the org for 3C (e.g., a Pius Suter type). Though I wouldn’t rule out Mikey under certain circumstances.
