Speculation: Caps Roster General Discussion (Coaching/FAs/Cap/Lines/etc) | 2024-25 Summer Edition

  • Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. The admin team will continue to work on existing issues, templates and upgrade all necessary available addons to minimize impact of this new version. Click Here for Updates
Not thrilled with the idea of ROR - he's only a bit younger than Eller (34 vs 35), probably has more mileage on him, and does not seem particularly fleet of foot. Not getting the value add here. I know hockey people like his grit and plays the right way and wins face-offs and is a shutdown guy and all that - but we're not acquiring the 27 year old Cup winning version of ROR, we're getting the 34 year old version of the guy
Roger all this. We also aren’t paying for the 27yr old either.

Would be a HUGE depth add = 5 + true centers for the playoffs. Not including CMM or Big Pro.

They will need that.

Lapierre is 23 and not an NHL quality player. He’s basically got a less than 5% chance of being a star player and maybe 50% chance of being a replacement level player.

He’s no Forsberg.
Im Just saying Nashville will call him up the second we trade him and he will have a better season. Like the Erat trade.

I never said Lappy was FF. I said it was just as bad as trade.
I get it 895 you think Lappy is a AHL scrub and hate him. I dont.

Anyways... ROR shouldnt cost anything more then a 1st. If Barry wants a top prospect to boot please rip off another team.

People here tend to get enamored with the best version of a player and think they're that guy until they retire. ROR would be a total waste of assets if he involved a top round pick or a prospect ranked in our top 10 when we already have Lars Eller filling the same role. Also, throwing another huge personality captain into the mix on a vet heavy team might not be the best thing to do to the room either.

Also I would hate to trade Lappy after it looks like hes getting hot in Hershey (AHL player of the week) without ever giving him another NHL call up.

It would have to be an injury but I would like to see him get a Caps game before the playoffs.

Agree. ROR isn’t the guy I’d target.

Re: ROR

His play-driving metrics are still very good and he's been completely sabotaged by Saaros with a legitimately unbelievable .863 (!!!!) oiSv%. Couldn't say whether he's "worth it" without seeing an actual package, but I would not at all be upset to give up the 25 1st + Lappy for him. Absolutely a different tier of player than Eller ...

But are you okay with Lappy + 1st? Seems like a LOT for ROR. Plus it's not clear he wants to leave Nash, so he might be a drag on the room. .
I am a Jimi fan, and do not want him traded. That said, ROR comes for two more years.

Our third line is bad. ROR is really a second line center playing on the third.

Mangia - ROR - RyLo

I would hate it, but I would do it.

He's the 3rd best play-driving forward on Nashville this year, and he's still putting up very strong production on a very low scoring team. (14 goals, 34 points in 54 games) Plus, he played in the playoffs last year (2 points in 6 games) and the year before with Toronto (9 points in 11 games). Sure, you're not getting 28 year old ROR but 32 year old ROR is still quite good. Plus, he has term (2 more years), so you've solved the 3C gap for next year and quite possibly 26-27 too.

One additional note: While ROR has played predominantly with Forsberg & Nyquist, he has also played well without Forsberg too.

I would trade for him. Not sure if I would do 1st + Lappy, but I would definitely acquire him if the price is right.

Lappy had a better NHL playoffs then ROR last year for what its worth... How fast some forget

a 1st and a B- prospect should be more then enough to get a deal done. And most seasons that package can get you the top player at the deadline.

Just remember what our picks got us this offseason. JC6 for a 3rd +. LT for 3rds.

Lappy IS a B- prospect.

We have four nearly untouchable prospects in Hutson Cristall Protas and Leonard

Then we have two first round picks with a lot of runway left in Miro and Parascak.

Everyone else including Lapierre is a B prospect. He's rapidly running out of time. I might even trade Lapierre over someone like Mateiko who is at least on an upwards trajectory.

And no I don't hate Lapierre. I don't hate any of our prospects. Why would I do that? I want them all to become HHoFers. But some of y'all are too optimistic about Lapierre.

Is he? Or did he just have a good WJC? His point/game has not improved from last season. (It's actually decreased, although not by a meaningful amount.) And the trade didn't help his stats either as I was hoping.

This is a genuine question. I don't watch him regularly, so if you do, I'd love to hear about what he's doing in the Q that shows an upward trajectory.

No just wjc for me. Having a good performance on the big stage against better teams is impressive to me.

I loved him at WJC. But the small sample size worries me. There's a long list of players with great WJC performances who never became NHL regulars.

Hopefully, he'll do well in the playoffs this year, which will significantly increase the sample size of big games.
