Uhh, what?

I thought this would be in reference to one of Sandin or Fehervary but I guess not. I mean, they seem to love Muggli, Chesley hasn't even signed (maybe he doesn't, but if he does I dunno how to value him, and Iorio is all they have on the right side.

I don't understand this report, it feels like just throwing shit at the wall and hoping it sticks. I think they'd be much more likely to move Lapierre or Miro for a bigger upgrade then any of the aforementioned 3.

Agreed. The only d-prospect we have that would return an upgraded forward would be Hutson which would be overkill (and probably stupid). What would we really get for an Iorio or Chesley (for example)?

What about Muggli as well?

I think Chesley/Iorio/Muggli, paired with a first? Now we’re talking.

Agree, Hutson, along with RyLo and Cristall would be untouchable.

TBH I think moving Iorio (in the right deal!) makes sense. Feels like there's not really a short, medium, or long-term spot for him here and while he's been good in Hershey he hasn't been great. At the same time though, he's that "NHL ready young player" that teams always go crazy for. Same with Chesley, who is even further back due to a lack of pro games. Muggli feels less likely to go given they just drafted him, although he has taken a step back in the NL this year and was pretty horrendous at the WJC so maybe they see something they don't like.

I will say though that Doerrie is -- to put it kindly -- not the most plugged in ...

There’s plenty of room for RDs in the future. Carlson is 35, TVR 33 and Roy is 29. Not to mention guys with lower Cap Hits can be useful.

Concur. I do not see TVR as re-signed after 2025-2026 season. He is the easy target to make room for youth.

Yeah, ESPN is a joke at this point.

Yea sorry maybe not long-term but in the short and medium term I don't see Iorio getting a spot really unless they move on from TVR this summer, which I also see as unlikely. Just think there's a risk that he turns out to be another AA/LJ where he tops out as a 7 or 8 especially since he's no longer waiver eligible next year. It's not that those guys don't have value or he couldn't be more than that but I think there definitely is an argument to move him now while his value is still high. I'd imagine a team like Vancouver or Buffalo would really value him.

There’s also Cam Allen…
likely more value keeping him than in trade.

seems like his weird development path would keep his value down, limit return, and also leave the Caps kicking themselves if he pans out.

I wouldn't be mad if they traded him or anything, he's absolutely a lottery ticket even as far as prospects go, but I'd be very interested in seeing what that deal looks like

I can totally see them moving one of Chesley or Iorio in the right deal. Win now…

Bigger question is are the right players available for acquisition?

Trading a D is conceptually fine, but it's a strange thing to 'report'.

First off, given that the 2025 draft looks relatively weak and that the Caps will be picking near the bottom, I would definitely be open to moving our first and I imagine that the team would too. This is bolstered by the fact the team has two seconds and one of them should be pretty early (Boston's 2nd would be #46 if the draft were held today, which is the exact pick the Caps used to get Fehervary). Caps could also hang onto their first and trade their seconds, possibly using the 1st to recoup two seconds if they don't like who is available at their pick. So, it's rather strange to suggest that the Caps wouldn't consider trading their first (2017 and 2021 beg to differ).

If someone really prefers a D, I'm open to moving anyone other than Hutson, but our prospect pool is definitely heavier on forwards than defenseman at the moment. If it's all the same to the other team, my guess is that BM and CP would move a draft pick or a winger instead of a defenseman.
