Speculation: Caps Roster General Discussion (Coaching/FAs/Cap/Lines/etc) | 2024-25 Summer Edition

If we’re talking about pending UFA targets that could slide in anywhere in the top 9, both Brock Nelson and Kyle Palmieri would fit, with Palmieri adding another much needed RH shot. Nyquist and Hall are options that could maybe slot in with Eller and Mangiapane as a playmaking winger on the 3rd line.

Nelson is the only name that I think will be moved that really intrigues me.

Guy I would go HARD after (but seriously doubt could be “gotten”) is Alex Tuch. I LOATHE playing against him. He’s an RW, he’s got another year left on his deal, and he’s only 4.75m against the SalCap.

That said, he’d cost a lot. Not Leonard, but some good prospects. I’d deal Cristall and another F prospect for him.

But that’s just me
I’m not dealing a prospect like Cristall for one year of Tuch.

I don't think they trade him for anything but a ridiculous overpay.

And also, like with any other power-forward types, almost every sing;e other team is more desperate for that type of player. Toronto, for example, would likely pay way more. So if he were available, I think someone else would pay more.

I see no reason for Buffalo to trade Tuch this season. Why not try to re-sign him this summer first and then only if he doesn't re-sign, trade him?

Tuch is one of the top 3/4 players they are trying to build around. They won't trade him unless they have no other choice. Plus, they'll wanted established NHL-ers back, not futures, and it would be easier to get that over the summer.

2 playoffs with the inside lane to resign him. Can’t get a player like him, and also hoard your nuts

Make it make sense for the Sabres, then.

Why would they want Cristall? Their team is literally filled with small creative wingers that they are already struggling to fit in (Peterka, Benson, Quinn, Kulich, Ostlund). On the flip side they want more players like Tuch, not less. He was in consideration to be their captain. Whatever you think from our side for Cristall/Parascak + for Tuch, it makes zero sense for the Sabres. I'm sure they'd be equally as happy to trade player like Quinn/Kulich/Ostlund + for another Tuch.

Who would they actually want from the Caps? C to replace Cozens? So... Dylan Strome? God no. They also desperately need defensive RHD so... Matt Roy? Again hell no, and trade protection alone would block that trade.
