He's actually been a disappointment for me.

Mangiapane is a pretty unique case because I think part of the appeal for the Caps was that it's basically a 1-year tryout with a solid player. He plays well, just doesn't pop much and doesn't figure to with Eller anyway. So it might feel like a bit of a bummer, but he's far from a liability, contributes a fair bit and we get $5.8m at the end of the year to spend however we need. Maybe someone'll want to rent him later in the year.

*shrug* Not living up to our hopes, but also not a squeaky wheel and his contract isn't hurting us.

As good as the Caps have been, they could use a bit more pop in their middle six. Höglander has some history as a play-driver, the ability to pop in 15 goals or so (last season’s hot streak aside), and at 23, could stick in the lineup for a few years.

Yeah, the Post is just churning content. No one thinks this is a good idea, but it's admittedly hard to come up with a believable trade that a league-leading team needs to do. They don't need to do anything. Acquiring a wing to play with Eller that you're hoping will pop offensively is just a bad idea. And that's not a shot at Eller; he's just not a complementary offensive player in that way, and our 3rd line doesn't figure to cure anyone's offensive struggles.

The guys we have cycling at 3W right now are all fine. The hope was that one would break out and lock up the spot, but that hasn't happened, so Carbs is just kinda using it as a flex spot. Maybe Miro will do something with it, or Leonard if that time comes. But it's not hurting us in the meantime.

Resist the urge to tinker. Let injury and circumstance dictate what needs to happen next. It's currently quiet on those fronts, so sit tight.

I feel like 8x8 for Chychrun is an easy yes right?

How about 8x9? That one is kinda tough.

If Chych can stay healthy 8x8 abso yes, even 8x9 with how good he's been so far, and Cap going up a lot next few years reportedly

But he's got a history of injuries already at 26, last year was his only 82gm season (68 the previous high and other times missed 30+ with knee surgery or ACL, plus a wrist injury)

Something really fun I just recently discovered (sorry if I'm late to the party), some of you that know and track pro-level equipment will appreciate.

PuckPedia includes "GearGeek" information for the roster, seems to be a list of the gear that every player on the roster uses. No idea how accurate it is (for example I know Ovi no longer uses those CCM sticks), but I thought it was fun.

His name would have to change to Mangiatorta

ps I don't get the cake reference...busy eating crayons this morning.
The Internet tells me Italian sponge cake is Pan di Spagna, sooo...

I dunno, the kids in the mighty ducks movie called one of the other kids cake eater

8x9 is absolutely too much and even 8x8 I think is towards the high end

I'm fine with whatever as long as we lock him up long term. As long as we can still back the truck up for Leonard when the time comes, I'm not worried about a million or two of "overpayment" for a top pairing defenseman, who might be our true #1 even before he officially takes over when Carlson retires.

can pretty much guarantee every Top-20 Dman from here on out's getting at least 8M+, esp w/Cap increasing
I love Chychrun but he's not a top 20 Dman. All of his recent comps -- Hronek, Theodore, Skjei, Montour, Dunn, Toews, Hanifin -- have been pretty significantly below $8M

THIS season is an easy argument for Chych in Top-20, esp production-wise since these are pretty much all offensive dmen and he's far outscoring just about everyone you listed

Montour 8g12a and Theodore 3g21a are the only ones with comparable numbers (and Chych's missed 5gms)

I think they're all great examples of guys who can be 1D but are probably best suited being a 2 on a good team, which is what I still see Chychrun as. Obviously the cap going up means that he'll probably come in above them but I think that the tier of defenseman he's in gets paid less than you would think to begin with ...

Chychrun is currently making 4.6 at the end of a 6yr contract. Think he can get at least 7x7 here....more if his play continues. Also, there are variables in his fondness of the team and friendship with Duihame. All those pieces align in the positive, and we might get a discount. But I don't see this less than 7m annually.

Thus far, what I've seen is a highly skilled puck mover, great hands, who exerts lots of effort and can win games. That's notta gonna be cheapa!

Agree… gotta look at the comps. A couple of months ago (like 10 games into season), I thought the market for him would be 7-8M with only us being able to give him 8 years. I was at 7Mx8. The Cap going up and his play may push his market to 8-9M and we get him at 8M. He plays 3LD for us and seems to be loving every minute. Chychrun (and his dad) know that is special to find so we have some position as well.

I think it has been smart to wait a bit, but like to see him get signed in Jan/Feb. 8x8 is fine. Really don’t think it needs to be above that and definitely not a $10M guy. Probably a NTC first five years.

If we let another team get JC6 because we are nickel and diming him. We would have F'ed up. Think of the Rangers or Devils signing him
Are you already losing faith in caps front office. Mac is good at this. And I’m sure GMCP is as well. I’m just pointing out that deals go both ways. They will find a way. And i don’t believe it will be over $8M but i do expect that we will give 8 years and i think we will give on the no-move/no trade provisions. We only see the finished product, but there are plenty of things to give on and get what you want for both sides.

It probably is best to try to sign guys while morale is through the roof. I don’t k ow what their plan is with LT, but it would be inconceivable to imagine they aren’t actively planning on resigning Chychrun.

Surely they are in conversations around it. I suspect both sides said wait until end of calendar year. We are there now so suspect conversations are just kicking off. These things don’t get done overnight. Could be sooner but i suspect Jan/Feb.

Yeah, for sure, best not to rush things for either party, but I’m sure all of us would love a nice Christmas gift of the announcement of a long reasonable deal for JC6
