Having some fun watching PLD highlights from his last 2 yrs in WPG. I think I’m more bullish on this move than I was initially. He is fantastic around the net - with his frame/reach, or using his hands on tips/deflections. Put him in the goal line spot on the PP, and he will feast on rebounds from Ovi blasts.

He can also be a shooter from the half-wall on the PP. Dude can absolutely wire the puck.

He’s obviously a huge question mark, but we desperately need this kind of offensive talent. If Carbs can get him going, he could easily return to being ~ 30/30 guy.

Team looks better for the next year. Still a lot of questions marks. PLD, Mangipaine and Chychrun all had worse seasons last year than they have had before. If they all bounce back Caps might be suprisingly good.

I wonder who will move out. Even with Backstrom at LTIR Caps are 4,1 million in minus. So unless Oshie also goes to LTIR the Caps will be over the cap.

Would like for them to make space for Alexeyev he was quite solid when he go to play towards the end of the season.

I missed all this Rutger McGroarty stuff

1) How good is he actually?

2) Why do we think we are the front runner ?

3) if he’s so good, it’s gonna cost a lot no? Like Lapierre +?

Giving up 1st and McM for an upcoming UFA would be terrible asset management. If you're giving up 1st + McM, it needs to be for a player with term.

The last 2 seasons the only players they traded with any years of control were Malenstyn, Jensen, and Kuemper, each time they get younger and probably got the best player. And when they traded a 1st they got back Sandin with 4+ years of control. They would want something eye popping for CMM and a 1st.

Even after all our trades the 2025 and 2026 1st rounders have to be some of the highest valued assets in the league. If we talking about draft pick values

How about McM + cond 2nd that becomes a 1st if PB re-signs in Wsh.

Or

Same as first proposed but with an extension in place.

Kinda digging this land of misfit toys vibe they’re leaning into. The players on the Caps have heard they’re shit and the team only cares about Ovi’s record for the past few years plus you add in guys who have been told they suck or they’re overrated or team cancers in guys like PLD, Mango, and Chychrun (Strome and Milano count here as well) and you’ve got a locker room of mostly younger guys, or guys looking to prove people wrong. Add that with a coach in Carbs who is young and fiery and definitely leans into the us against the world mentality and you have the makings of a scrappy yet talented group with a lot to prove this season.

Honestly, yesterday I was thinking this roster feels a bit like the first-year Golden Knights. They did pretty well.

I'd love for them to figure out a way to get Ehlers and McGroarty out of Winnipeg. But overall really happy with the day the off-season has started.

It’s either CMM +2nd/3rd kinda deal or 1st + prospect. In no way should CMM AND a 1st be included for anything less than a star…..IMO. (And Buch was an early target I discussed here)
