Speculation: Caps Roster General Discussion (Coaching/FAs/Cap/Lines/etc) | 2024-25 Summer Edition

I suspect my physically hermit lifestyle has had me escape this.
Be careful out there. I live a remote hermit style in the woods and got it. Started out with chills, aches, and short term, low fever. Respiratory stuff started later, but nothing too strong. I rarely get sick so it seemed worse.

Curious what people think the TDL will look like for the Caps? What's on your wishlist?
It seems like the locker room is tight, and I'd be reluctant to mess with a good thing.
Options in order of personal preference:
1) "We like our club"
2) Bringing in like-for-like (stylistically) player(s) to replace injured guys if the new player is a significant improvement on potential Bear call-ups
3) Wild-ass moves to bring in guys like Scott Walker, Curtis Glencross and other non- (or possibly even negative-) impact players.

I wonder about Sonny Milano too. Does he get a real shot at the 3LW position? Vrana continues to score but he’s going to have to keep scoring and using his speed to stay in the lineup

If we do something I'd like them to go after a Yanni Gourde type or Hoglander type, someone that's gonna be tenacious as frk, puck hound and make life miserable for the oppo (not liking Hog's production this year tho', Gourde's not near his historical numbers either)

I think 3rd line is where all the concerns are, Vrana/Lapi/Milano are all various kinds of 'ifs' and Eller doesn't drive offense; I'm fine w/Mangiapane, I'd be fine w/upgrading Eller to someone that can help L3 scoring

If Vrana keeps the speed and scoring, great, surprising he's doing as well as he is
I have zero confidence in Milano staying healthy for any length
Lapi is a question mark, think he just needs time

maybe something around, say, vrana and a 1st for mantha?
Out for the year IINM.

I hadn't looked at the rental list yet and it's...not great. Could definitely see them staying pat and counting on Leonard being their big add.

Took the kids to practice today and I don’t actually remember seeing Mangiapane on the ice.

Other thoughts: Ovi looks like he is back. He was doing line rushes with Strome and Protas and in his office on PP1. Vrana is still running on PP2 so he appeared in. Miro I think was on PP2 as well so he’s probably ahead of Lapierre at the moment. PP1 was interesting… maybe it was just practice but they were running JC, Ovi, Wilson, Strome, and Chychrun. Lars was back and seemed no worse for the wear. Tommy still sporting the full face shield.

I think they will probably do nothing or bring in a cheap checking winger as Duhaime/Raddysh insurance and let Lappy/Vrana/Miro/Leonard duke it out for the 3w spot.

What I would like it to look like is getting the top forward available, even if it means moving the 25 first. Nelson or Marchand would both be incredible fits but I doubt they'll get moved. Gourde as others have mentioned I really like, Vatrano could be another good fit. If you want to get really crazy I could even be talked into taking Kreider. I just think that their clearly is still an (understandable) trust issue for Carbery with the third line. If you get one more guy there and can truly roll all four lines you're really cooking. Their legitimately good this year and Ovi and Carlson don't have many years left so no real excuse not to go for it.

I think reading between the lines Milano is out for the whole year. He's had quite a few concussions and it seems like the current injury is another one.

just offer LT the Blackwood deal which is the same as Kuemper’s deal and just say all the cool kids are doing it?

It depends on who the top forward is.

Vatrano is particularly interesting for one main reason: he is very close to Leonard. They train together over the summer and have for years. That could help ease Leonard's transition.

Vatrano is also close with *Ryan* Strome, but that doesn't really move the needle for me.

Yea I don't think I would move a first for Vatrano or Frederic for example but I would certainly give up a 2nd!

Reminder for everyone when thinking about trade proposals: in terms of draft picks the Caps have their first this year, two seconds (theirs and Boston’s), one third (Carolina’s), one fourth and one fifth (both their own), and no sixth or seventh. Next year they have their first and second, no third, two fourths (theirs and Vegas), and their fifth, sixth, and seventh. Five picks in the first two rounds for the next two drafts is pretty good for a team this good. They can throw a few draft picks in trades either now or at the draft and still have a relatively full allotment of picks.

Thankfully I have avoided it by adhering to strict protocols, bleach injections and livestock dewormers.

Caps have looked sluggish lately comparatively so adds up

KillerT! I, too, adhered to that, sadly I was not so lucky. Twice I had to endure the wuflu, copious amounts of the ‘Qil sent it packing tho, that and my sturdy immune system.
