Hard no to PLD. Absolutely not.
Agree. The player is fine for what he is. But that contract is untenable.Hard no to PLD. Absolutely not.

Devil's advocate (and not sure if LA would do this) - what about at 50% retained? I agree with the hard no on taking his full contract, but it might be tempting at half price (4.25 but all the way to 30-31).Agree. The player is fine for what he is. But that contract is untenable.
Were almost paying kuzy that much to do simular to what PLD is on another team. Pass.Devil's advocate (and not sure if LA would do this) - what about at 50% retained? I agree with the hard no on taking his full contract, but it might be tempting at half price (4.25 but all the way to 30-31).
As long as the finals end before June 24, the Kings can buy him out at 1/3 of his remaining salary, spread out over a longer period of years. That's a better course for them unless a player with real value were coming their way in a trade/retention scenario.Devil's advocate (and not sure if LA would do this) - what about at 50% retained? Yeah, I saw all the talk about buyout and thought it was insane but it's honestly not that bad. Below is if they get it done before the 24th. I mean, it's not ideal but if they want him gone a buyout makes more sense. No way they're retaining 50% on that contract that long.As long as the finals end before June 24, the Kings can buy him out at 1/3 of his remaining salary, spread out over a longer period of years. No you're probably right.Kings aren't trading Kempe. They may be "we took mushrooms and chained ourselves to PLD for 8 years" dumb. But they're not "let's trade our trade our top scorer who has not yet peaked as a player and has one of the best combos of speed and skill" in the NHL dumb.
I remember a few years ago really wanting Kempe before he broke out. Saw him play a few times and came away thinking if he put it all together he was going to be a 40+ goal guy. He’s like Ehlers on steroids.Kings aren't trading Kempe. They may be "we took mushrooms and chained ourselves to PLD for 8 years" dumb. Sign me up. One more year left at $6M. Not altogether ideal and for the 17th pick maybe a bit rich for a team in their circumstances. But they could do worse. Not much of a playoff guy historically but someone that would add to their pace at least.Meanwhile, an NHL source tells The Athletic that Nikolaj Ehlers is going to be shopped.
Sign me up for some Ehlers for sure. Dude has so much pace to his game![]()
Who stays? Who goes? Jets roster tiers and offseason decisions
Head coach Rick Bowness is far from the only member of the Jets whose future is up in the air.theathletic.com

It depends heavily on who you are getting back.I wouldnt dump CMM so fast. He made alot of progress in his 1st full NHL season. He was almost a 20 goal scorer and if he could figure out how to finish he can easily be a 30 goal player. We didnt develop him for all these years to trade him when the slow cooking is finished.
