I think CMM in Hershey has obviously been a good thing. His confidence needed a boost and I would let him ride that heater into the playoffs, hopefully get even more confident to take a roster spot next year.

He’s also raising his trade value quite a bit IMO, where some here said he was near no value, now he looks like a main piece to package to pickup a scoring winger (if they choose to go that route for one)….

Nothing bad comes from McMike enjoying a successful AHL season.
That's a complicated statement.

Nothing bad comes from McMichael enjoying a successful AHL season as opposed to being scratched and underplayed indefinitely, yes.

Nothing bad comes from McMichael enjoying a successful AHL season as opposed to playing in the NHL where he was also tilting play positively but gripping the stick too hard in shooting moments gets less binary.

I'm glad he's having one, yeah, but give this IQ player time to actually play the NHL game and maybe stop benching him the second everything doesn't go perfect and they've cultivated this at the NHL level and not the AHL, because he's already done that in the AHL and it shouldn't be a surprise anymore.

He needed the confidence boost because it was stripped of him by his NHL coach.

Later if he blossoms people will be like "oh see this was his development time" but it didn't even need to be like this. The only reason his value dropped is because Laviolette torpedoed him at every goddamn turn

Here’s a fun question. Who do you all think has more trade value, CMM or HL? If you think its similar, which would you move first for a scoring winger?
Personally I think its similar, with CMM edging him in value although I’d move HL a lot quicker.

HL because Montreal will overpay for him lol. Personally, CMM is more valuable due to other parts of his game, however I do like both of them.

Sure it does. It’s one whole season not competing against NHLers and playing at NHL speed. Instead of being prepared for NHLers entering next season he’ll have to get re-acclimated to the NHL all over again, which could take dozens of games.

Nope, watch some sports and you’ll get it. ;)

Confidence means EVERYTHING.

I don’t really care about “reasons”, he clearly needed it. He didn’t produce when he had the chance and here we are.

It's official, somebody call Matthew Yeats! Let's secure the 7th pick. Close enough that one of the big 4 could fall or trade up to get.

I doubt we’re going to be able to unload Kuznetsov, they should just try to pair him with defensively responsible forwards. I wonder if Toronto flames out they’ll look to mix up their core. I remember in the trade thread someone proposed Nylander for Wilson, I’d cry if we let go of Wilson but it’d be hard to say no to a return like that.

Huge day in the Tank Wars.

Washington is favored to win today for the last time this season in all likelihood. A loss today in Montreal would go a long way to locking down the #8 or #9 draft position.

Vancouver plays at home against Chicago and are big favorites to win. A Canucks win and a Capitals regulation loss puts them even in points, though Vancouver has fewer ROWs so they'd still be in #8 position after tonight.

St. Louis are underdogs at home against the Rangers. Hopefully they show up and eke out at least a point tonight.

The Red Wings are even money against the Sabres. Hoping Buffalo continues to struggle a bit down the stretch and that Detroit pulls out the win. A 3 point game would be just dandy.

The Rangers played last night so let’s hope they’re a bit tired from the Lightning game. There’s also a psychological difference between playing a Cup contender in your conference and wanting to send a message than with playing an out of conference lottery team. Here’s to tonight being a throwaway letdown game for the Rangers.

Do not think we can overstate how much better guys like Kuzy - not saying he is not a f***ing headache - and our young players will perform under a coach that grows relationships, nurtures talent, and puts players in the best positions to succeed. That is the antithesis of Lavi.

Yes, Lavi is the problem with Kuzy….I mean he had his bounce back year under Lavi..

/eye roll

Jettison that MFer…enough excuses.

I'm generally not a fan of Laviolette's work getting the most out of certain players, but I think this assessment is correct. (though I think we'd disagree which year his bounceback year was!)

Kuznetsov wasn't exactly playing well under Reirden either. And even under Trotz his defensive game cratered in 17-18, though of course the playoff run more than made up for it in that particular season.

I think Kuznetsov is what he is: a guy who is a sieve defensively and doesn't really make up for it driving play offensively. He can outscore his offensive metrics through some creative plays and feeding guys like Ovechkin the puck, but at the end of the day he gives up so much the other way that his crativity simply isn't enough.

I don't think he's a tenable option going forward. Unless they change the game to just being shootouts. In which case give him a league max extension!

I don't know what part of his tenure here would make him a hot candidate on the market. Just wild.

I doubt anyone in power in the NHL is looking at this stretch of play and the circumstances surrounding the Caps this season with all their challenges, and is thinking it’s all or mostly on Lavi. Just Caps fans who dislike the guy.
