Carbery has head coaching experience, knows how to run his own team. Halpern is interesting but still too green probably

Sounds like he's denying the rumors and honestly I'd believe him. I don't know if anyone's been given a bigger leash then Kuzya. About the only thing he could be mad about is not getting PP1 time which, often enough, seemed extremely stupid too me.

Np disrespect to Halpern on his accomplishments and being a local guy, but I'm not ready for another former Cap as coach.

So kuzy denies making a trade request....

Tbh this makes sense because otherwise GMBM is kind of a moron for not trading kuzy last year when his value was much higher.

So I'll just choose to believe rmnb made shit up until proven otherwise

RMNB didn't make anything up. They were just pointing towards a Russian article claiming he, Kuzya, had made trade requests going back to March.

RMNB should never be used as a real source.
Once agian, RMNB never claimed anything. Seems people don't actually read articles.

Or, hear me out, different coaches and systems ask different things of players and it’s not always a good fit so a player can go from being very good in one situation to not being good in another and vice versa.

If you were traded from your job and the new job had a different boss that did things differently and your work responsibilities were changed and you didn’t do as well in the new environment, does that make you a weak person? Or does it make you like everyone else who may find that situations aren’t working when circumstances change? It happens all day every day in all aspects of life and it doesn’t mean someone is weak.
I feel ya, but bosses and work environments change all the time. A players adapt, others move on. He’s a hockey player. He’s not being asked to play goalie. He’s being asked to do his job better.

He is what he is….an OK NHLer. I expect a bounce back season, because it’s a contract year, but I would not keep him.

Just realized Todd Nelson is coaching Hershey. IIRC Yakupov rebounded nicely under him when he took over for Eakins in 2015. Seems like a Don Granato type coach. Wouldn't mind him taking over. Always wondered why he never got more shots as a HC and Rick Dudley never got more shots as a GM after bringing Ladd, Byfuglien etc to Atlanta.

We're believing Kuzy's denial? Didn't he deny using cocaine, too?

Of course he's going to deny it. The season isn't even over. His trade value is lowered if the story is out there. He has to deny it.

But the "who knows" thing at the end seemed like a wink wink nudge nudge implying that, yes, it's true so please send offers.

Halpern doesn't have any head coaching experience at any level. I think he's a promising candidate, but there are others I prefer who have more well rounded resumes. Namely Carbery and Vellucci.

Ian's at RMNB but he is also credentialed and has connections if I'm not mistaken.

Carbery being option 1 certainly makes sense and could at least partially indicate why they are leaving Laviolette as a lame duck. If Carbery has a good shot at being their next HC that could explain why they haven't promoted anyone internally as an interim coach because that could be a disruption when a coach has pretty much already been selected.

I'd be down for Carbery. He's familiar with a lot of the young Capitals looking to be on the roster next year (McMichael, Snively, Protas, Alexeyev, Johansen) so one would think they'd actually get a fair shot rather than being overlooked for veterans. He runs a good PP in Toronto so hopefully that success could carry over as well. He's also familiar with Rasmus Sandin so hopefully he can help him continue to carve out a top 4 role in DC.

It'd be an interesting choice. I'd certainly prefer him over a retread.

I still think Jukka Jalonen would be a fun option. But no problem with Carbery either.

Dont think it really matters if Kuz asked for a trade or not. The plot stays the same and they wont make a decision based on that. It only makes sense to trade him if you get a fair offer for him, or have a top line center coming in to replace.

Has Backstrom been performing better? has there been any analysis that shows if he’s gotten better or worse as he has played more?

I know we’ve said it for two years but wonder if a full off season to train now that the surgery is behind him and a new coach could bring him back to life a bit. Makes it easier to move on from Kuz for sure, who’s been downright awful anyway.

The scary part of them bringing in Carbery is he might be willing to keep Forsythe around. I'd want him to bring an entirely new team with him, not someone who's already been behind our bench (at least at the NHL level).

Sammi recently resigned at her old position at Washington Hockey Now, and I saw some comments speculating she was going to be the new Post beat writer. No idea if it’s true, but if it is she’d be great at it. She loves the game and unlike a lot of others she likely wouldn’t be using it as a stepping stone to another gig.

Whatever it is we’ll find out soon.
