I was close, I had 13/8 with LuJo in and CMM out but no real surprise here except that I think CMM belonged in Hershey at least temporarily until Protas got a handful of games and CMM started tearing the AHL up. Can't imagine everyone doesn't clear. Will be tons of other players on waivers at the same time so not like everyone will be drooling over just our guys.

Think I'd much rather see LuJo in that 7 role than Lavi Mancrush Irwin though. Not sure what the infatuation is with him, he's terribad and for someone like LuJo to practice with the big boys every day it could be beneficial vs back to Hershey as his time is starting to run out. Worst case scenario LuJo has to go in for an injury, he sucks and you just recall Irwin from Hershey. Not like either of them are going to be highly sought after on the waiver wire if that were to happen.

Don’t really think the 6D matters that much. They’ll have time to try whoever there if Gus / Irwin stink. At the end of the day, it’s not a crucial position

It’s not but LuJo out played Irwin. You need to reward a young player like that who has been biding their time in the AHL and to have a journeymen who didn’t out play you take your spot is crap.

I think the philosophy is that Irwin doesn't need games to be able to step in effectively (for him at least). And that Johansen is likely better off playing so it was more that he needed to beat out Gustafsson. And, again, they were philosophically against going in that direction from the beginning. It's tough because he has shown some flashes and they do need someone more capable in time to step up and absorb more minutes in a trustworthy manner. Gus/Irwin aren't that.

It's not a huge deal but then if the offense struggles 5v5 having a weak link defensively could be costly.

I am fine with all of this.

I really like what I saw from LuJo but he made a fair number of mistakes. Right move is to send him to Hershey and let him play and develop more down there. Ir Irwin needs to play a game, then fine he can jump right in. But if someone is out for a few games then LuJo will likely come up and play since we have space.

I am surprised they sent Leason down. We don’t really have any RW NHL call-ups. I would have protected him even if he had to sit In WSH. His size, 30 NHL games, and upside… I can see someone putting him on their NHL roster.

I'd like Nick Foligno to be claimed by the Caps but im not sure about his health or cap hit
He sucks. Reilly is the more interesting Bruins claim I think. But another rich contract.

I wonder if they'd have any interest in Simmonds/Gauthier/Leivo while Wilson is out.

I don’t think Reilly is where they will spend 3Mx2. Gus at 800k and showing he is coming around probably fine for now.

What is good about all these waivers is that it is more likely for LuJo to get through. And hopefully Leason and AJF as well.

I respectfully disagree. Irwin is not an NHL defensemen at this point, and Gustafsson is barley an NHL defensemen at this point. TVR is going to have his hands full.

Yup… which is why i think if someone is out for more than a game, we’re likely to see move to IR/LTIR and bring LuJo up to play those stretches. But our 7th/8th dee got very little time last year. So let LuJo go get Minutes and work on some stuff so he is ready.

If they aren’t going to try develop Johansen at the NHL level they really need to upgrade that 3LD. Gustafson blows and Irwin should only be playing when there is an injury

You never said anything about filtering TOI, correct? But you accuse me of posting in bad faith? The default filter is 50 min. What did you set it to? Did you mention that?

The stat you posted in the graphic is absolutely what I said it is...the difference between xGF/60 and xGA/60. I'm not sure what filters you're using to get those numbers, either.

Here's what I just used. Bumped the TOI to min 500min 5v5 so CMM would be included. So these are comparable players in utilization.

View attachment 591298

CMM was 120th in the NHL in xGF/60 at 5v5 with no adjustments among players with at least 500 min last year.

If we limit it to just forwards per your original posts he was 88th:

Sorry but I'm not a fancy stat expert so I don't know what xgpm is and why it's so much better than xGF/60 which is the coin of the realm in most fancy stat discussions around here. Care to explain? And then post the actual stats instead of xGF/xGA?
xG/60 is how much expected goals per 60 minutes you are generating. It has no context other than pure offense. XGPM, expected goals per minute, is a RAPM based stat which is based on stint-level weighted ridge regressions using target variables per 60 rates, the weights are the length of each stint (stint is defined as a period of play where no player substitutions occur). It uses:
  • Offense:
    • Goals For per 60
    • xG For per 60
    • Corsi For per 60
  • Defense:
    • xG Against per 60
    • Corsi Against per 60

I apologize for not making this argument not clear enough, I dont mean to be toxic or vitriolic towards you or anyone on this board, I just feel pretty strongly about this and dont want to lose a young, budding talented player because older, less effective players are playing above him, e.g. Jonas Siegenthaler. I love this team and just want them to make good decisions and be successful now and in the long term.

A few bottom-of-the-lineup complaints aside, I like our team.

If you start with the premise that they weren't in a position to add an elite forward (which is debatable), they did about as well as they could this off-season.

Looking at the contracts the lately signed UFA's (Motte @ 1.350m, Rodrigues @ 2, Murray @ 0,750) i don't think any of the veteran waiver guys get claimed. Maybe Philly claim Foligno if their locker room is absolutely toast and Torts wants him but that's it. Cap space is so valuable right now.

Hard pass for us.
