Prospect Info: Caps Prospects General Discussion Thread - 2024-25

I'll flip my own take now, just for the sake of argument.

It's possible he might not want to sign with us, though it could have less to do with "playing time" and more to do with the money he can earn in the short term from playing.

Each of Snuggerud, Moore, and Rinzels have significant performance bonuses. From $1.2M up to $1.8M across the 3 years. That's a good chunk of change, but earning it of course depends on actually playing. Chicago (and St Louis, but to a lesser extent) don't really care if those guys suck. They won't be winning anything anyway. They can play them and at the least the guys would get bonuses based on numbers of games played. Chesley may not think he'll have the opportunity to earn those.

Rinzel and Oliver will each get $25K for appearing in 5 games this season. That matters to a kid.

That'd be some bad judgement on his part. Play in Hershey most next season with a few call up games, and then he could be a regular in 2026-2027 after TVR and JC74 are off the books (though I think Carlson signs for another year or two). If that isn't a great path for a quality player on a fantastic team, then I don't know what is.
All high profile Minny players have signed with their respective team.

You’d sure hope his agent is professional enough to advise him about this, maybe negotiate a small signing bonus to make up for it, rather than letting the kid throw his chance with the Caps away over $25K.

Doom and Gloom!
It's so nutty... some folks just can't enjoy things...

I'd mostly hope he's realistic about the challenges of playing D for a good team in the NHL. (I didn't specifically mention it, but the other ELCs all had the max $95k signing bonuses too.)

I personally still think he signs. If he thinks he's good enough and deserves regular NHL time, well, then he should also believe he'd be able to beat out TVR.

He can join a Calder Cup contender and play important minutes on a contender. If that's less important to him than earning performance bonuses... Not sure I want him.

I'm drunk in Harper's Ferry, pardon me

sounds like a great way to spend a Saturday!

so he can't have one?
He can, but Moore and Rinzel are also both getting the max signing bonus of 10% the ELC. The $25K would be on top of that.

Mind you, I don't think that's the issue. I think if there is an issue, which there may not be, it will be the lack of playing time immediately (and possibly not guaranteeing that he'll be in Hershey and not the ECHL?).

Helpful thanks. I mean, I could also see him just being really bummed right now. These are kids and that was a devastating loss. But I guess we'll see what happens.

Yeah this too also and honestly. Losing the way they did should absolutely suck, and hurt, if you have any pride whatsoever. Especially given it was Chesley's wipeout (trip) that was the turnover leading to the game winning goal. No shame in needing a few days to re-sent.

Our RD in Hershey next year could look like this:

McIlrath
Chesley
Allen
Priskie?

The left side is a hot mess in terms of two-way players who can make it to WSH. That is why i think we must resign Alexeyev. He is fine as a 7D on left side. I believe Iorio will be 8D on right. We may need to sign 1 (maybe 2) LD who are on 2-way contracts. ness will be around on an AHL deal next year.

If I'm Alexeyev, I'd need a huge 1 way contract to make up for the lack of playing time. I think he's gone.
