Speculation: Caps General Discussion (Coaching/FAs/Cap/Lines etc) - 2020 Offseason Pt. 4

They broke the rules. That's why the 4 are being called out. It's not rocket science. And now Sammy has the 'rona. So yeah, the whole team is at risk, but the whole team didn't cause this.

Honestly, if I'm the rest of those guys, I'm so angry at these 4 right now. They put the whole team, the staff, and their families at risk. Even if no one else is infected, which is unlikely AF, it's just awful for team cohesion, for their chance to improve over the homestand, for everything.

What a shitshow and what terrible leadership by Ovie. :facepalm:

I don't see how only Samsonov is positive...They were all on a road trip together. So they were at the rink, locker room, hotel together. Makes no sense that only those four are quarantining.

I don't know how they can not postpone tomorrow's game though. They all should be in quarantine for precautionary measures at least.

Different people present differently. It's virtually impossible he'll be the only one when all is said and done.

Why even bother to have a season if this kind of stuff is going to happen throughout? It's all for optics. Clown show. How are the Stars going to make up their games by the way? Have they decided that? If they're in the playoff hunt are they going to have to run a gauntlet at the end of the season and play 7 games in 7 days? It's all compromised in my opinion.

Unfortunately it seems COVID will test the "team sport" aspect of hockey this year. If you aren't a team player and you break the rules then it hurts your team. Whichever team survives it the best. Probably as simple as that.

I have a hard time placing blame on anyone. Only exception is if Sammy was outside his bubble being dumb. Yeah it’s a rule but it’s no more of a risk than practice or a game. I’d also put money the other teams dealing with Covid have lied about the situation.

Given that rule, why are players not required to wear mask everywhere except the ice and bench? How have most coaches not been warned/punish for pulling their mask down to yell?

Unless Samsonov was going out in public and being unsafe, then him getting sick would have happened either way -> regardless of the 4 of them hanging out together.

Unfortunately we might not ever know how exactly this happened.

Despite what he did last season, Samsonov better learn to be smarter as a person or else he's gonna turn out to be a bust for the Caps going forward. First the ATV accident and now catching the Covid-19(possibly in a careless manner). Someone needs to have a serious talk with the kid!
 
1- How can people blame Sammy for getting CV-19 without knowing how he got it? People all over the place are following all sorts of guidance and still getting it. It happens, hence why we need to keep working on long term solutions [mod].

2- Who suspended our guys four games? The NHL or Lavi? Because if its Lavi, holy cow what a hammer. If its the NHL, what are they basing that on? Seems arbitrary and harsh.

3- Where is the quick turn negative test option like other sports? Why aren't these guys getting tested at least once a week to track things and keep the team safe. They are with each other every day shoulder to shoulder.

Sorry for the questions, I'm trying to catch up as I just saw this. But I think we got a couple of different things going on. Anyone who thinks the Russians gave Sammy covid strictly because of playing video games in a hotel room is delusional.

Its so true that we don't know how Sammy could have gotten it. People are still getting sick now and taking precautionary measures. It's a little too early to say that it's all his fault.

About the 4 games. The games are not a suspension or punishment. The $100,000 fine that the NHL levied on the Capitals is the punishment, not the games.

The missed games is because of state of Virginia mandatory quarantine rules - 7 days of quarantine (and a negative test after) if you are in contact with someone who tested positive. And those 7 days cover the next 4 games.

I don't get why people think sitting in a hotel room for hours is the same as moving around in a big arena. The ventilation is totally different.

There are of course going to be issues with physical contact and breathing directly into someone's face, and maybe even surface transmission, but it's not going to be nearly as concentrated as sitting in a 12x14 (or whatever) hotel room handling PS4/5 controllers, yelling, maybe sharing food or drinks and just breathing the same recirculated air.

Viral load is important and smaller quarters with greater numbers of people and less ventilation increases viral load.

This really doesn't bode well considering the accusations about the team not having a serious mentality in the playoffs last year. I'm sure I'm just angry and overreacting but I can't help but feel the time has come with a few of these guys. It might be time for a major shake-up. The poster child of complacency has to go, and you know who I'm talking about.
