GDT: caps at rongos

Fehr- Backstrom- Brouwer line came out swinging. They play well together
Oleksy looks to be good depth

OV needs to go. In the third period the Rangers had the puck down low and he was circling their blue line waiting for the Caps to get possession and pass to him I guess. Tired of his lack of effort. Get rid of him while he has some value left.

What are we blaming Ovechkin for today?

The first goal that was 90% on Holtby? Or was it the two penalties called against him that weren't actually penalties?

He wasn't great, but he was far from the reason the team lost the game.

Yes to Stevens and Langway... dropping AO even further down the list.

With all do respect but the great Stevens and Langway got the Caps past the 2nd round once in 8 seasons together and they routinely lost to lower seeded teams in the playoffs.

Around here I thought those were run you out of town offenses?

You mean reaching with his stick instead of skating? They were penalties.

How about his floating on the other team's blue line when we didn't have the puck.

Or the time he had the puck behind the net and threw a blind pass with no one in the area that went the length of the ice.

He is being paid to perform every night. Eric Fehr was doing more impressive work today.

edit- He is also -5 in the last two games.

For Ovie Haters (dumb) lets look at some of the careers of other elite goal scorers of our generation

yeh im sure brett hull was trash and a bust after not scoring 50 goals again after 94

What does something that happened 20 years ago have to do with a lazy floater?

If OV isn't scoring, he is worthless. He has as many goals as Troy Brouwer. A fringe second line grinder who is known for hitting.

was he a lazy floater yesterday when he backchecked and saved a goal on travess?

Another trash player Luc Robitaille
http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=4616

Hull didn't become less than a point a game player until he was 35. And at 27 Robitaille was helping the Kings to the cup finals after a 63 goal 125 point season.

Ovechkin is terrible right now. We need to all pray that he regains some semblance of his former MVP self...

Rangers fan; just throwing that out there for the sake of perspective and not leaving any stone unturned.

I watched the game against the Islanders and he was fantastic. I also watched today (obviously) and he was beyond brutal. For the money he is being paid and the role he is supposed to have, back-checking hard some games is not enough. What he brought to Long Island is what he needs to bring every night. I think everyone knows he is capable of it; it's about being consistent.

National TV, early, Sunday = Rags 4-1. :(

Sheesh. Wished I had seen this sooner. It would have saved the time of agonizing all afternoon.

When do the Caps play Florida again?

Congats to Oleksy on his first goal. The kids from Hershey are doing okay. I'll be glad when Orlov gets here until Oates moves him to his left where he doesn't want to be. Can't wait.

People on this boards...

How many times have I told you guys repeatedly that a wingers job isn't to prevent goals being scored against from the goal line. Wingers cover the points.

Neither call against Ovechkin was right. How anyone could call that holding call legit is beyond me, the ref didn't even say the correct person he held, he claimed he held Callahan.

Goalie lets in a pee wee bank goal?

BLAME OVECHKIN!!!

Didn't realize Milbury had sockpuppets trolling this board.

wat?

Arghh - an incredibly frustrating and dispiriting game to watch. Couple of observations:

-On the Rags 2nd goal, Carl Hagelin just roaches Tom Poti along the boards behind the net. Hagelin's a nice little player sure - but how the hell do we allow a guy like that to just shred us in board battles.

-Our board work in general (Wardo and Fehr being exceptions) was putrid. The Rags forwards worked the boards with impunity knowing that there was not a sniff of a danger that any of them might get stapled to the glass in an unpleasant fashion. By contrast, our guys simply didn't display the requisite level of snarl and go-fug-yourselfness that is required to win board battles.

-If the NHL widened the net by a foot on either side, Braden Holtby would be the best goalie in the league. As it stands now, however, his overplaying just creates scoring opportunities for the opposition where there otherwise wouldn't be one.

-Here's what I'll say about Ovie - forget about his D, forget about the penalties (the double whammy in the 2nd was utter crap - I can count the number of players on 2 fingers that NHL refs would make 2 calls against on the same sequence like that, and the only other guy besides Ovie, Sean Avery, is out of the league; the refs decided to make Ovie pay for his embellishment last week and whining to the press yesterday; of course he shouldn't do that crap, but of course they should be professionals - but they're not, they're NHL refs).

-Right, here's what I'll say about Ovie: he's where puck possession goes to die. It's reached appalling levels now. The guy was always turnover-prone due to high-risk, high-reward style, but it's reached a pandemic level now.

-We quit toward the end of the 3rd period. That was just pathetic in the last 5 minutes or so. This team's mental make-up, it's woe-is-me lack of defiance at -- and anger about -- being on the wrong end of the score during a game is completely unacceptable. It's a loser's mentality.

Man, i'm glad i've missed last two games... actually, have NYI game DVRed, but i think i'll skip it...

Who stole Ovy's dog? Seriously.

Get him a shrink already. I've never seen a fall like tihs before.

I wonder if it was or is just the coaches inside Ovi's head, trying to "fix" his game.

Well, everyone except for Dale of course.

Inadvertently, of course. Believe me, you don't want Hannibal Lecter Adam Oates inside your head.

Who else would he listen to? Maybe the Canadian media but they have been on him for some time.

Oates may have already tried to keep it simple. I have seen Ovi floating up high a lot lately. Including the fateful 2 penalty plays he was circling outside the blue. If I didn't know better I would say Bruce hockey is back.

Its amazing, Ovechkin has to deal with Backstrom, Green and Semin on rotation of not doing anything during the playoffs. Yet he has achieved nothing. No ****, its because the only one to consistently show up is Ovechkin.

You guys didn't complain even a 1/100th like this when Backstrom passed the puck to Seguin to score in Game 6 OT.
