Post-Game Talk: Capitals win game 1, lead series 1-0

No it doesn't, that's insane

That's an interference, learn the rules.

they got away with it twice today (once in Demidov, vonce on Laine), but that doesn't mean we should just accept it when it happens as "oh well "

I understood why Guhle got the early hit penalty the other day, because those are the rules. Accepting the rules gives me the opportunity to point out when they fail to follow them

This was much closer to Xhekaj on Highmore (no call) than the call on Guhle.
Laine got a tap in the back and went down like he got hit by a bullet train... This kind of interference call almost never get called.

At least the icing should be waived when you physically stop the opponent from getting that touch on puck.

Anyhow, Laine had no part in that. He never touched the puck. He was taken out of that play before that (which is against the rules).

He tried to sell it of course.

Hopefully we'll get some calls our way in the series

I think what bothers me the most is the complete non factor Slaf tends to be. He has no identity, terrified to carry the puck more than 5 ft and not physical at all. I hate his instant throwaway passes when someone looks his way.
He was instrumental in both goals tonight and though he wasn't throwing hits as much, lead our entire team in the regular season. What game do you watch?

Byfield always had huge raw talent as a prospect. He can dangle 5guys before scoring. Rarely seeing Slaf going for it threw the middle stickhandling. Can’t compare the two, except for size and draft status..
I was more talking about the physical aspect of the game

Everyone we need to chill, we almost won a game where:

1. 1/3rd of our roster played their first ever playoff game
2. We were the away team
3. The reffing was dog water.

If we can start game two the way we finished game one this series is winnable. And even if we go down playing like that. It is excellent experience for the young guys.

Even if we get swept, this season was a major success

He had 1 hit and got out hit by Gallagher and Demidov in a game where they were running our best guys. He's looking terrified to go near the other team and throws the puck away asap. He is on the first line to bring a physical precense and he isnt doing that. What game did you watch where he got 0 points and threw almost no hits and yet you think he belongs on the top line? He also had the second most PP time, maybe he should put some work in?

Dogshit reffing tonight. Caufield got hit with the same hit Guhle did against Chicago, no call.

Demidov hit by Leonard without the puck, flying in the air, no call.

Gallagher got hit with a crosscheck right in the mouth, no call.

Suzuki gets 3 crosscheck after the whistle, no call.

There was so much f***ing stuff that wasn't called that I just stopped trying to remember them.

Refs are f***ing gutless. It's pathetic. It's a f***ing epidemic in every single f***ing sports right now and it's destroying the game we love.

His net front presence, puck touches near the net and cycle/possession game were the reason the habs got to score 2 goals tonight. That’s called physical presence. But hey, he got no points so that means he didn’t play well apparently.

What game were YOU watching?

I think they should look at making calls after the whistle from video review or even reversing calls based on video review. It could even largely be automated with AI, but humans having the final word.

Right when this happened I was like "This is the kinda call we get screwed on" and the rest is history.

I just don't understand the logic of calling that an icing when :

a) The pass was clearly intentional towards Laine

b) Laine gets pushed before he even touches the puck

c) Instead of of being impartial by not calling interference and waiving the icing, you benefit the team without the puck when it should've been a penalty in principle.

Love him or hate him,

There was a reason Marc Bergevin built our defense in 2021 so big.

Hutson alone is fine.

Huston+Struble+Carrier, etc. and you start to have a problem.

I fully agree. Can't have Hutson, Matheson, Carrier, Struble on the same D core.

The team is "Ahead of schedule" but Hughes has a lot of work to do in order to build a contender.

Xhekaj , Mailloux, Reinbacher. All 6f3 215lbs +. Help is right around the corner.

Armia, Dvorak will be replaced by younger/hungrier players soon, like Florian Xhekaj, Hage, etc

Our biggest dman tonight is a BargainBin holdover... Also our least useful...

Maybe it's just a coincidence 😜
