It’s funny the 1991-92 Rangers came up. I was thinking the other day how this team kind of reminds me of them.

Obviously, they aren’t en route to a President’s Trophy this season. But the multiple high-end rookies, the blend of veteran talent and young talent in their early 20s, etc. There’s a weird sense of overlap, even though on the surface it wouldn’t inherently appear there is.

The difference being Gorton is set up much better asset-wise moving forward. Smith pretty much sold his proverbial soul for the Cup in 94. This team has the ammunition to construct a winner and keep it together a lot better than that team.

What a game to be at!

The Garden was rocking all night. Never going to forget a night like this.

If anyone had any questions about how good Zibanejad is, that was put to bed tonight

Lost my voice! What an experience!

Staal is 2012, McDonagh in 2015, Stepan in game 7 and now Mika in 2020. Speechless.

Zibby is a top 5 center. Don't want to hear anything else.

I'm still trying to find my voice. What a game. That 3rd period felt like playoff hockey at the Garden.

They’re definitely close. That 91-92 team, before they moved Weight, Amonte, etc. over the following 24 months was STACKED with young talent, including a draft that landed Kovalev.

The list of players in the organization that were age 25 under is almost sickening.

Sometimes I look back at that media guide and it’s hard not to think, “We should’ve been what the Red Wings were.”

Been on a (as it turns out poorly timed in my life) skiing vaca in COL so haven’t been around much.

Watching this team come together is so great. I still feel we are missing a major piece but damn does this feel AMAZING

Yeah, that was my point. Having Weight, Amonte, Graves and Kovalev to go with Leetch, Zubov and Nordstrom should have been one hell of a core for the 90’s.

The draft after Kovalev sucked major wankage.

If I wear medium shirts, what size authentic Adidas Rangers Jersey should I get. I wear a sweater underneath. Medium 50?

We're so pumped still, so can you imagine how great it is for the kids to witness. The experience is invaluable to the rebuild.
But I was told an intangible such as making the playoffs, would not provide great experience for the youth...that we were better off missing the playoffs...

Now of course they have not accomplished anything yet, but they are playing playoff type games right now and as you said these kids are witnessing something special, getting a taste of it, which is something that can motivate someone and build off of it.

Im sure this was posted already but lol.

Mika has come a long way in his career. He has really turned into quite the player. Hopefully he can sustain being mostly healthy moving forward.

Brassard’s descent since the trade is almost as remarkable as Zibanejad’s rise.

Obviously he’s older, and his inevitable decline was going to come sooner. But I thought he could at least hang in the 20 goal, 50-60 range a little longer than he did.

He was really good in Ottawa (points didn't tell the whole story there), but immediately fell off a cliff in Pittsburgh and then it somehow got even worse with every new team until he rebounded with the Isles.

They're a smart summer away from being an actual contender next year.

They have the ammunition to do some pretty major shit too.
So much hinges on Chytil & Kakko. Fox is a sure thing. Shesterkin is a sure thing.

I love how we used to have fifty #2Cs and no #1C now we have a #1C and no other centers lol.

I loved Brassard and his time as a Ranger. But, I loved that trade the moment I found out about it. I remember some of our European posters talking Mika up in that 2011 draft.

Same with having no RD to suddenly being flush with them.

Crazy

I watched this game with my Caps fanatic neighbor in his garage. It was fun with the back-and-forth, but holy hell did I lose my shit on the winner.

Only crappy thing about this game was having to watch the Caps broadcast of it. Can't wait to watch the MSG broadcast. f*** you NHL and your 48 hr blackout restriction. At least MLB only has a 90 minute one.

Loved the puck pressure in the O- and neutral zone in this game. Once again Panarin had some other-worldly passes.

Oh and here's some blasts from the past from guess who...

His physical side?
Putting all the pieces together??
C'mon man..If you're talking about his big 3 5v5 goals over 21 games then I gotta LOL.
Sorry just have to wonder how he is thought of so highly.
I think most Zib fans are chasing a ghost quite honestly ;)

Zibanejad would be the first guy I traded.
He's a 3rd line C/PP specialist on any good team and completely fkn useless otherwise..

He's playing way over his head as it is right now so either sign him as a 3rd line C and trade Zibanejad or VICE VERSA.
I'd rather keep Hayes over Zib.
Trade one of these f***ers already and get it over with already lol

I thought so as well, however, I think Ottawa was just not the right team for him to go to. Yes they snuck into the playoffs that year right after the trade but he just did not seem like a good fit there. Brassard is and always has been a player that to succeed, he really needed to find a team that just worked for him. All the breaks go his way, whether it was play on the ice or chemistry off the ice with the guys.

Strome very much reminds me of Brassard in many, many ways. Average on the faceoff dot. Could be incredibly frustrating at times on the defensive side of the puck. Irresponsible at times. But would find ways to produce offensively. Maybe Strome can be just as clutch in the playoffs. If we get there. But still, extremely similar players imo. Which if we are to handle the situations the same, should be selling high on Strome.

I was at the game the night Gaborik hung 5 on The King. This was a lot more fun.
I remember Gaborik saying he was gonna have a five goal game with us right after he signed. He never did, but he DID have a four goal game against Toronto that was pretty magical.

Seriously. They could not sound anymore bored when the Rsngers scored. Then every penalty we had was embellishment or a tacky call. Yawn
