Squid game 2 is pretty bad compared to season 1.

That said I’m trying to finish it before NFL starts tonight

Ahh man truly some great in that sci-fi series. Adama transmitting in the clear that he is taking command of fleet after all the colonies have been nuked and their forces clearly routed.

Still love 33 the episode after the mini-series. 4th season gets some weird and the finale a bit contreversal but all things considered still a great series overall.

This decision still haunting in S1:

I loved that 2 part intro series. In the beginning when they flew the colonial vipers overhead to the old theme brought back sweet nostalgia.

Watched half the first season and while it was good I lost interest. Maybe need to get back on it

I think the wide opinion is 2nd season was best over all so something to look forward to if you get back to it.

I had the same experience when I gave it a shot about a decade ago. Should've been right up my alley cause I love interstellar sci-fi and the whole Anabasis-style withdrawal after a catastrophe and trying to save what you can trope is one of my favorites (Side note - anyone else here read the Lost Fleet series? Not high literature but an example of this setting/trope combination that I enjoyed). Part of it was that I'd heard so many people say the ending sucked which made it harder to enjoy the ride, but also the whole time I felt like I was watching Mormon fan-fiction. Nothing against Mormons in particular, but I found it kinda off-putting.

Oh, I kinda thought that was common knowledge. The original creator Glen Larson was Mormon and included a lot of stuff from Mormonism in the series. From the wikipedia:

Glen A. Larson, the creator and executive producer of Battlestar Galactica, claimed he had conceived of the Battlestar Galactica premise, which he called Adam's Ark, during the late 1960s. As James E. Ford detailed in "Battlestar Galactica and Mormon Theology"... the series incorporated many themes from Mormon theology, such as marriage for "time and eternity", a "council of twelve", a lost thirteenth tribe of humans, and a planet called Kobol (an anagram of Kolob), as Larson was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.[1][2]

Maybe I wouldn't have noticed it if I'd gone in blind, but it was something I read beforehand so I knew to look for it.

I have a crap ton of military sci-fi stuff on my kindle that is generally midlling writing but overall story arcs or different takes on things generally I can move pass the obvious mono racial/culture aspects. The BSG related stuff is admittedly a bit of a trip. Not surprised by much these days.

Jeez the credits he has on TV I feel was my growing up.

I wonder if B.V. Larson is related. Love the Undying Mercenaries series.

edit: oh I thought there was some TV series that I had just somehow missed completely. Those stories rule for that, I had The Founding and it's got so many really compelling settings/themes, plus I love how you can read a few Imperium stories without turning into a fascist yourself thanks to the way they're framed as outsiders.

The six triple eight on Netflix…..good stuff. Not a well known topic, but good WW2 movie.

Thanks, might give it a look. I dismissed it after seeing the trailer cuz it looked like shit production value and a hokey story, like something done by Hallmark. And Kerry Washington's performance looked crappy in those couple minutes, too. Wouldn't be the first time a shitty trailer helped botch a good movie though.

Some site just did a Top 20 Sports Shows Ever article. No Shoresy. No hockey. Methinks someone over there needs to give their balls a tug.

I love the black library stuff and read a ton of the gaunt series stuff and it’s great but ultra gritty. I read about half of the Horus Heresy books so far but since I got reading glasses I’ve been barely reading last couple years

they are fully f***ing that series, by which I mean HotD.

first one was okay and a lot of build up, second season was... rough. They can't keep hiding behind the "we're prestige television" mask when this is what they're doing on a long term release schedule, this season had better rip in reaction to their strike and make up for lost ground because otherwise they're going to run that property into the ground before the next spinoff even takes root.

I'm not even a hardcore book nerd, never had the exposure to this source, but even I know this is going way sideways from where it should be right now.

Well my personal take on the House of Dragon whatever spinoff has to deliver basically the movie quality FX like the original series which leads to longer production time and shorter series.

Honestly there is so much decent TV out there not really concerned about the longer production times for high end genre series.

I just wish Netflix will stop green lighting mediocre young adult fantasy series. GoT was not young adult but for some reason producers won't go with any of the plethora of adult fantasy that is out there.

It's not the VFX that I'm doubting, it's almost all of the plot and pacing of season 2. I tried because at my core I'm an optimist and I'm always trying to hunt for outcomes I enjoy even if it means doing a bit of filling in the blanks.

I liked some of it, but damn... that was a not a satisfying season of television.
