It’s not a move a rebuilding team makes. Just look at how great it’s gone for the Sabres. The Canucks are a rebuilding team, whether or not the front office is going to cop to it.

not sure how credible Jason Botchford (from "the Province") is...

The Province is British Columbias main newspaper and Botchford is credible beyond his own general idiocy.

Basically. He's beyond irritating and is just a general asshat but from a credibility stand point he's probably the most reliable insider in Vancouver.

If it is true Canucks have been interested in Evander Kane and have walked away from that Canucks fans should be overjoyed with happiness. Trading for Evander Kane would be terrible for them.

Yeah it sounds as if the deal was hampered by Buffalo's demands for Kane. I think the rumors of the Sabre's wanting Ben Hutton as the price just makes no sense when it comes to Evander Kane.

Any other GM and I would have said the sticking point was the Canucks offering Sbisa and the Sabres wanting Hutton. But since it's Benning, it's Hutton and Juolevi instead. Yes, that's right, it's more likely Murray thought he could con Benning into giving up Juolevi than Benning offering Sbisa.

It was probably Hutton and/or Virtanen in the situation. Most likely a 2nd or 3rd in there too.

Acquiring no hockey sense loser players is a trade a "winner" makes?

They keep making these "winner" transactions though: Virtanen, Shinkaruk, Sbisa...maybe shoot for Chris Stewart, Jared Cowen, Dion Phaneuf, Cody Franson...collect the whole set...

You can add Andrey Pedan to that list. What a hysterically poor scouting decision. Size and tools but absolutely no hockey IQ whatsoever.

Erik Gudbranson and Brandon Sutter are borderline. I want to group them in the size and tools but no toolbox category as well.

Its no surprise these clowns are circling around Evander Kane. Right up their alley.

I see Botchford in probably the 3rd tier of reporters. He's credible, but not a great reporter. I'm pretty sure he has some connections in Vancouver though. I would trust this rumour.

Sutter is all hockey sense. His technical skills can't keep up with his brain. Thus, his underrated ability to carry it across multiple lines but he often carries/drifts to his left side and then fails to make the skill play to get it back through the passing lane he created. Sutter is an expert checker and extremely detail oriented in my opinion.

Gudbranson strikes me as a pretty good example though.

Two things:

1) I'm glad the Canucks passed on Kane if that truly was the case.

2) Botchford doesn't understand the Canucks' definition of a rebuild, and seemingly doesn't realize that the Canucks are rebuilding as we speak (although in Botchford's defense, most of the media does not seemingly understand as to what the Canucks are doing). Make no mistake about it however - the Canucks are rebuilding.

I just think Buffalo should get whatever they can for Kane. Maybe Benning sweetens the pot by adding Baertschi or a 5th along with Sbisa.

I am 100% confident "Kane to Van" will work...you will all see

By the way Benning should be fired.

Sutter has nice defensive IQ, he has absolutly no offensive vision, he fast and can shoot, last year his 50 % of his primary assists was him getting shoot in the ass and somesone putting in the "rebound"
