Today is the one year anniversary of the Pearson for DeSmith trade. Last season management made two trades during training camp. The season before that they traded Dickinson right as exhibition games were starting. Will the trend continue?
My guess is Lankinen.

Really depends on Blueger, how many forwards they want, and if they are going with a full 23-man roster. With Blueger healthy, Joshua out, and Blias there are 14 forwards signed to one-way contracts*.

*PdG is on a two-way but his AHL salary is $500,000.
Yeah, you're right. I'm not saying that he'll make the team or anything, rather that I'm interested in seeing if he survives the first round of cuts. Although, I do wonder if Blias is really going to make the team rather than a waiver exempt player like Bains.

I'd be shocked if Alriksson makes the team or is even a late cute. While he did a lot of good things at the prospect tournament, his skating was horrendous. Guy wouldn't look out of place at Burnaby 8 rinks.

I love hearing this. You could tell he worked on his shot a lot after the season before last ended. Hughes went from being afraid to shoot to putting shots to the net when there was an opportunity to do so. If Hughes can get a hard and accurate slapper going for this season, look out. He will have the full arsenal to be a dangerous threat on every shift.

Hughes definitely wants to be on the same page as Makar. Amazing players.

Interesting to see Desharnais with Soucey. I was wondering if they might split up Soucey and Myers to spread a bit more puck moving ability through the bottom 4 and avoid a Forbert-Desharnais bottom pair.

-has been a little bit frustrating at times
-when he first got hurt in the playoffs it was such a rare case; a unique injury
-not a lot of information to gauge a timeline on
-was told that he may find himself in this situation
-able to rehab a tonne this summer and has taken a little bit longer than he would like
-last couple weeks on the ice, he's been feeling a lot better
-full confidence he'll get back out there
-talked to specialists all around the world
-everyone is confident they are on the right track
-hasn't been linear
-probably lied to himself during the playoffs that he was further ahead
-maybe would have been able to grit through the injury and play in the conference final
-hit a bit of a wall in the summer; lack of progress for a couple of months
-tonne of progress last two or three weeks
-tweak some habits and stay on top of maintenance
-during the evaluation of the injury, discovered a minor thing; possible it would flare up during the season
-specialists recommended to get something done
-had an operation but it had nothing to do with what happened in the playoffs; took him two weeks to recover
-can't give a timeline but is on a great trajectory with the most confidence he's had
-timeline would potentially create problems for him
-is a grown man, media was kept in the camp all summer, and felt it was more respectful to address the media himself; have everyone on the same page
-was a tricky situation with Ian Clark, delicate at times; had heard rumblings about a change being made
-Clark is not completely out of the picture and are still keeping in-touch
-Torenius has made a great effort to get to know him
-describes his injury as a muscle injury when asked if it was a knee injury
-couldn't find one case of this injury in hockey players; maybe less than 5 soccer guys
-going into this blindfolded
-lots of praise for his wife
-only has one gear which is to go as hard as he can but is learning there are different ways to get better
-realization at the back half of summer that he won't be ready for camp

Yes, mentioned previously, but this alignment makes some sense:

Hughes-Hronek
Soucy-Desharnais
Forbort-Myers

Probably more so than anything else I've seen ... assuming you keep the top pair together.

Yeah, we both had the same thought when we saw those lineups. I'm not sure it would be asking any more of Desharnais or less of Myers to run the pairings like this because after Hughes-Hronek the next two pairings probably play a pretty equal number of minutes with the edge going to whoever is looking better on that day.

Forbort - Myers sounds hella scary.

It will be up to the coaching staff to take the rough edges off. A big, stay at home guy should be a decent compliment to Myers gaffe prone style. Maybe in a structured environment they can shine a bit.

I wonder if they will try
Hughes - Desharnais
Soucy - Hronek
Forbort - Myers

god I hope DPetey exceeds all expectation and come in as a call up as sticks around and we ice

Hughes - Desharnais
DPetey - Hronek
Soucy - Myers

Another possibility ... though if I recall Soucy-Hronek have looked pretty bad when tried together previously. I think generally you just want to try to avoid a Forbort-Desharnais pairing if possible, since that basically isolates the main problem with the blue line on one pair (ie. puck moving). Soucy and Myers are fairly good breaking the puck out, so it would mitigate it somewhat to spread that over two pairs.

yeah but i guess it's a moot point if they are not trying it out right now.

I wonder if Lekkerimäki holding a spot would lead to the moving Hoglander.

At the rate that we’re seemingly getting injuries? Unlikely for now. And his low cap hit makes him super valuable this year. Not to say I wouldn’t be open to trading him in a defender package, though
