Happy to read the good reviews. He's been very reliable in Detroit as well. Was surprised to see him go and sign a contract that low.
I imagine there a few teams out there kicking themselves, including the Red Wings who let him walk. I mean how many teams in the league could use this version of Pius Suter?

But he lasted on the UFA market for more than a month, and didn't sign until August. I imagine he had a few offers of a one year contract......but the Canucks were prepared to offer him two years at basically the league minimum.

A nice signing by Allvin for a versatile, depth player.

Suter makes more than 2x the league minimum.

It’s this poster’s MO. He’ll latch onto one comment rather than the whole idea around the post.
I always find it strange that there are people online who expect others to discuss every single point made on a hockey discussion board/forum. I find it even stranger in this context:

Canucks fans in June 2023 - Who is going to play C?

Canucks sign Blueger and Suter

Allvin "Bringing in Pius for the next couple of years really helps us strengthen our centre ice position."

MS: Suter is a 5C

Canucks poster discuss whether Suter can fill the role of bottom 2 C.

@Peter Griffin : Why is this poster latching onto one comment about Suter being called a 5C?

He looked good last season and he's looked even better this one. Really hope they extend him. He's logging heavy minutes right now and doing yeoman's work at both ends of the ice.

3x$2.25M (Heinan money). Suter gets a bit more term/security. More likely we offer him a 2 year term.

Highly doubt that he'd sign for that. Can play wing or centre, up and down the lineup, overall I think it would be fair to say that he has third-line value. And the cap is about to go way up.

Last time around he didn't garner much interest. I suspect he will be seen as an undersized middle 6 winger who is jack of all trades but doesn't have a standout quality.

Yeah 3rd line money at a minimum. He got squeezed out due to the tight cap when he came here but this is his chance to cash in.

Last time around he was coming off of a down season.
Sure but while there's plenty of games left and I did see Suter as a career year candidate, he's kind of right where his career averages are. Literally his other 4 seasons in the NHL he has scored 14 OR 15 goals. Even points wise, you say his last season in Detroit was a down season where he had 24 points. Last season with the Canucks he had 29. In less games but still. Right now he has 13 goals and 23 points in 50 games. In January he had 2 goals 4 points in 15 games. In the last two months he had 5 goals 10 points in his last 29 games.

If he stays relatively healthy he should reach a career high in goals. Points wise I'm not sure. Maybe? Maybe Suter gets hot and gets that career year I thought he might get, if not you're looking at a fairly consistent player season to season who has a slight career year at age 28. In comparison, we signed Heinen (to a below market contract according to Allvin) coming off a 17 goal 36 point season which he essentialy duplicated two years prior. He's also bigger.

Bluegar had a pretty good year last year and we were able to sign him for 2x$1.8M AAV. I don't think Suter will draw the type of interest and receive the type of offers you're expecting. I could be wrong and the cap is rising but I think if we offer Suter some security like a 3 year term we can get him for Heinan type money.
