I'd rather have Horvat since they produce the same but Horvat is better at everything else. Horvat even makes 250k less per year.
Pretty sure that ship has sailed. He's also a couple years older, so any decline will happen sooner. With Chytil looking good, I don't think we need another top 6 center. Just need to add speed and scoring on the wings

Plus Mancini and O'Conner, and the removal of VD off the books (and I guess Heinen and Brannstrom).

Fixed the D, got cap space, swapped some B/C prospects, got a 2/3 young C, but lost a 1C who needed to go but is still a great player. I like it so far, but what they do with that cap space to fill the C spot will ultimately determine the success of this set of moves.
Of course. You have to judge a team build as a whole. Some trades will be won and some will be lost so it's about the ratio of won:loss.

They made some mistakes and corrected them. They had a difficult situation to deal with and while it maybe took more time than we'd like ultimately they addressed it and in doing so filled some gaps.

Pleased. very pleased.

We are set for years on D.

And I question spending much of our cap space. It has proven to be very valuable at the TDL, and at the draft.

horvat would check a lot of boxes

dominates the dot

replaces boeser on the PP and honestly is better as the bumper

adds to team speed

communicates to hughes that the window is now

familiarity with the team, community, etc

i don’t know how we would or could get him, but at the deadline we could easily absorb his contract with nothing going the other way, and AFAICT we could add him now if we just sent down one bottom of roster (juulsen, aman, or whomever) and clear another half mill somehow

the only question is, are there hard feelings with allvin/rutherford?

Well, currently 27... but under 9 mil per when contracts are about to skyrocket. Fwiw, he's Hronek/Mpettersson age

Career average is a terrible way of looking at a player. He's right about ppg over the last 3 seasons on a shit team. He's become a really good player, in case you didn't know.
Spitting hairs but he is 28 yrs old in 35 days.
I thought the idea is to get younger rather than older? We could go Islanders, all over 30 and over in 3 years.
Have you looked at the ages on this team? They aren't that young in hockey terms any more.

In three years if nothing changes the team will have 15 starters 30 and older. There are 23 on a roster.

Why not try to find a few more Lekkerimaki's, Willanders or E. Petterssons? Maybe trade for a few that are still UNDER 30 in 4 or 5 years?
The team going to lose more? Have more internal stress of constantly losing or struggling to compete for a WC spot while other teams are getting younger and better or are like Vegas that just jettisons player to make their team better every year? It does seem players like going to a cup contender. Edmonton isn't going to be worse with the cap increase, Minny is young and will have 28+ mil in cap space, Winnipeg has most of their vets on long term deals, Colorado, well they have Makar and MKinnon and are still real contenders, which team will an older team beat out? Those at the top now will be at the top in 3 years and might be younger and better than now. Certainly younger than the Canucks would be.

We aren't getting young impact players without making Willander/Lekk/EP2 available, and the roster is being set up to compete for the next half dozen years. Management isn't going to wait for even more rookies, they want to compete now. People freak out too much about 30 year old players.

Seems like a solid deal. I'd have gone slightly higher on the AAV if that would've removed the third year of the NMC but maybe that just wasn't in the cards.
