He missed games last season due to a broken ankle. He missed games this season due to a torn meniscus. Neither of those injuries warrant long term concern in my opinion.

Michael Gallagher’s take on Zegras from yesterday when the news broke that Anaheim was taking calls.

I'd happily give up draft capital this year to get him. Again, guys that have that level of creativity and high upside are never available without reason. If they were perfect prospects, they wouldn't be available. There is too much smoke for him to not actually be available in my opinion, and maybe Anaheim is finally trying to move on from him so they can turn the page if they aren't getting along. I absolutely think he still has top C ability and would love to see him here with ROR for a couple years. These are the type of reclamation projects that can completely speed up the "rebuild". If he busts out, then we are still in a bad spot...same place we are now.

He's young, which I like. Has one more season until the $5.5 million AAV expires which I like. But missed 2/3 last season and has missed time this year...eh....as with most, depends on the ask. Maybe one of our low 1st and a mid-high prospect?
He's likely better than anyone available in the late 1st so depends on the prospect. Bigger issue is he's a Matt Duchene/Tommy Novak-type center but not a center and wants to be played in that spot. As a 2nd line winger if we managed to get another center, maybe better shot at success here.

I expect Zegras gets traded for a not crazy package and will go do really well somewhere and we'll add him to the list of guys we should have gone after. I also think if we were to trade for him he'd be a total bust and whatever late pick we put into the package ends up being the next Pastrnak or something.

Zegras isn't exactly a Cheerios winner.

And his game is a bit like a younger Duchene? I'm not complaining, but Trotz? Who knows?
