In the pre-camp interviews, Quinn Hughes continuing to sing the praises of Sherwood,. I guess he really made an impression on him during last spring's series with the Preds.

It'll be a relief to see him hunting down opposing d-men in the offensive zone, rather than plastering Canuck d-men up against the wall.

Quinn Hughes must be consulted before any new free agent signings from now on.
You know I’ve always wondered why GM’s don’t consult with the teams best players on who they should target more often. They’re the ones that can give you on ice insight that could be valuable bits of info.

Obviously there’s a whole list of problems that can arise from that but isn’t the world much a better place with rose colored glasses 🤓

The extreme on the other side would be a situation like LeBron James acting as a GM. If it means Quinn Hughes bringing his family to the team, like LeBron did with his son, I’d be all for it! :naughty:

Sherwood leading the NHL in hits by a wide margin in the early going. How can you not love that?

He reminds me of a cross between Darcy Tucker and the late Rick Rypien. Absolutely fearless out there.

You have to some props to Allvin. Every year he seems to sign a guy like Sherwood who absolutely fits in seamlessly with the entire group, and quickly becomes a fixture. 'Team-building' in the NHL, is no easy task with all the egos and contracts.

But it seems as soon as they arrive in Vancouver, it's quickly: "We are all Canucks."

This you, uh, within the past week?

I guess every season is different, and you just never know until they start playing the games.

I actually figured that Allvin had a solid off-season, adding the guys that he did for a minimal amount of money.

But only four games in, and Sprong and Desharnais have each been scratched twice. And Heinen may as as well be, for all he's producing right now. DeBrusk is trying, but appears totally snake-bitten at the moment and really isn't doing much on Pettersson's line,

Forbort and Lankinen are probably the best 'adds', but even they have their limitations. Still lots of time to sort it out.....but so far the UFA class of 2024 is more than a little 'underwhelming'.

Last year Allvin 'hit' on all the the depth UFA signings, as well some of the depth guys he brought in via the trade route.

This year? Not off as good start so far. Sprong scratched after only two games; and Heinen is all but invisible out there. Sherwood is showing some nice energy, and has a emerged a decent PK'er. But offense is almost nonexistent.

Debrusk has had his moments.......but supposedly he was brought in to get Pettersson going....and so far that hasn't really happened either.

But that's the problem when you're signing six or seven UFA's every year. Sometimes it all fits together seamlessly. But more often than not, it just creates discombobulation--at last initially.

Messier/Keenan put an end to this as a possible future trend back in the late 90’s :)

I think it does happen. More so with coaching hires but I think there are instances where players are consulted. The question is to what degree. Of course players have a way of expressing themselves like Quinn saying he fits best with "Fil"

There is also the old mantra of GMs manage, coaches coach, players play etc.
