Rumor: Canucks: Should I stay or should I go? Pete stays and Miller goes!

Pettersson is miles ahead of Miller when it comes to two-way play. It truly is not even close. Yet Miller is the one giving a hard time to Pettersson? To me that's the worst kind of leadership. Giving yourself a free pass while requesting more from others. Great player but that's a red flag of significant size.

I guess the team acquiring Miller better have a real strong leader or two or this mf is going to command control and some shit's going to be stirred again.

According to reports, the Canucks were looking at getting Adam Sýkora, Bo Groulx, and Jaroslav Chmelař. Sýkora is probably the best out of the bunch.

There are also rumors that the Canucks could receive Lafrenière and a 1st-round pick in the deal as well.

Let’s use this as a baseline.

RANGERS:
  • Young player with potential: Lafrenière
  • 1st-round draft pick: Late
  • 2 C-rated prospects
  • 1 B-rated prospect
You know as well as I do that Rutherford and Allvin don't acquire draft picks, only give them away.

What I don’t get is if Vancouver trades Miller for Lafrenierre, 1st and prospects, who will play 2nd line center for them? Suter? That would be a major drop off…

That’s why I’m a bit confused by that possible deal…

Maybe PA flips the assets for a centre? He did that before with the Horvat trade.

I bet these are the same GM's asking for the cap projections to be released.

It really is amazing how boring hockey GMs are. In every other sport, teams try to make deals. Especially struggling teams.
The issue is the mostly flat cap the last few seasons hasn't given teams wiggle room to do much of anything. As the cap goes up I expect team flexibility will as well.

They need to do something. This is killing the team. They are coach killers. Currently underachieving, their 3rd straight coach started out well, and is now being killed by underachieving players, as the team once again underachieves, and sinks in the standings.

Just rip the damn bandaid off and trade Miller (or Pete less likely). The team will never be a team until this is done.

Yeah the share didn’t change when the players were paying them back, but now we are entering a period where the money is paid back and they are trying to bring it back in line but from the looks of it they are doing that quite conservatively.
The players finished paying back the debt last season or the season before. The split is the one mandated by the CBA. I believe the CBA also has clauses on how much the cap can go up in one year so that it doesn't take a huge jump.

Escrow will always exist as it's the guarantee of the 50-50 split. Escrow is based on the previous season revenues along with predictions of the future. It happens that this year the actual revenues are expected to be larger than the projected ones when escrow was set. In this case the actual projections are significantly better than projected so the league (1) stopped the escrow from being taken off player earnings for the rest of the year and (2) when the accounts are settled the players will likely receive all of what they put in escrow back+1-2% more to hit the 50-50 split. It's simply the workings of the CBA.

Not in all cases. Some GMs would rather grind a guys career into dust rather than risk possibly “losing” a trade.

Why is Frost still with Philadelphia? Why is Anaheim trying to turn talented players into grinders? There are probably more examples.

Miller MIA from the club’s one a year big charity function last night. The word was he had “food poisoning”. He may have been ill, but with everything that’s swirling around him he might just want to play games and practice but that’s it.

No doubt. I'm thinking the lack of movement with bigger salaries. When the salary cap goes out we will see (1) even more really stupid contracts and (2) more ability to move on from higher paid players who might not be fitting in. My opinion. But yes you will still have stubborn GMs who are loathe to make changes (and admit they made a previous mistake).

Carolina makes sense they need a 2c desperately. Not sure what the return would be Canucks would have to take KK for sure
