i can see kind of how this started, like all the failure of the last season and the distraction of him negotiating in season that affected him in the past just led him to saying "f*** it we will sort it out later, i just want to play hockey."

and then the team was very good and that complicated everything. like, guaranteed he did not anticipate the team being buyers and did not conceive how his contract uncertainty would complicate the team going about their business as a contender. Without knowing if he's here or not, you can't trade 2025 picks, cant trade blue chip prospects, can't re-sign other UFAs to keep a good group together.
