Rumor: Canucks Now Looking to Add Impact Forward

Here are names that I would love to get that fit the criteria, and have at least a small chance of getting traded.

JJ Peterka
Shane Pinto
McTavish
And if you really wanna gamble
Zegras
I may be excoriated by true Sabres fans as I'm only a casual "one of my second team" type of fans of the organization...and I say this knowing JJP has like 9 points in his last 5 games or something like that...

But instead of selling low on Cozens - if I'm Buffalo, I absolutely would consider selling high on Peterka. Now, you'd have to come pretty big with an offer for a 23 year-old winger on pace for 65 points - but...for as slick as he can be, I do think he's a bit of a one-way, streaky guy - and I think that's just kind of in his DNA. And I think the Sabres have a clutch of youngsters coming through the ranks who have some similar traits, if not out-and-out potential.

I'm not sure if I'm the Sabres, I want to commit that full boat 7-8 year deal on a finesse winger (albeit a really good, young one) when my system is so loaded and I've already committed so long and so hard with the rest of my 20-something core and maybe want to save money to keep Byram in the fold. But for a team like Vancouver - to get a dangerous winger at that age, already proven and locked up for his entire prime would be pretty nice.

I'm not sure what Buffalo would want though. Obviously Willander is who they want and that's not on the table. More picks and prospects doesn't seem that enticing. Lekkerimaki and Ostlund had great chemistry back in Sweden and in a way, Lekkerimaki would be kicking the can down the road for Buffalo in terms of him potentially being a similar scoring winger in the NHL as Peterka. But I'm not sure how sellable that is and I'm not sure what other immediate assets of value Vancouver would have to give up that would be worth parting with a guy like Peterka.

Sabres aren’t looking for draft picks and prospects, they are in the market for impact forward at roughly the same age area.

I don't know that Willander is the player style Buffalo would be looking for, but I wonder if something around Willander for Cozens would be of interest for the Sabres. They definitely want a top-4 RHD and it seems that Willander will be that in the near future.
He's absolutely the type of player Buffalo should be looking at and he'd fill a huge need in the organization. If he was on the table for Cozens that's a no brainer for Buffalo.

If Wallinder isn't even on the table for Peterka I'd imagine that's a pretty short conversation on Buffalo's end.

lol you don’t say?

Honestly I wonder if they make a deal with the Sens or Sabres

The Sabres are trying to add, not subtract. Unless the Canucks are still looking at trading Pettersson, I don’t see what Vancouver could offer that Buffalo would rather have over a “mid-20s impact forward” already on the roster.

Are they? The team seems like they don’t know what they are looking for. They are in 29th place and looking at another shot at 1st overall. Ira clear this “core” isn’t working for them

If your only real asset is cap space, you're probably not getting a high impact forward. But they could get Casey Mittelstadt.
Avs would have to have a deal in place for a replacement 2c if they were to move on from Mittlestadt though, no? Even if he hasn't been great they need someone there

Willander is truly the dream fit for Buffalo. RHD with a Faber/McAvoy profile. He wouldn’t be on the table for Cozens or Peterka, so you’re right, probably a very short call.

Nah, it rubs me the wrong way. Shows how delusional fans of sports teams can be in discussions of fictional scenarios on an internet forum.

By fictional scenarios you mean the non-realistic trades you suggested that negate the term? How is it delusional to suggest a player won’t be moved in any realistic trade? Sounds like a you problem

Ya, I get It. But consider this, they could have made moves in November to try and salvage a run to the playoffs. Adam’s didn’t panic, he stayed the course, and there were talks with the Red Wings and Pens. The point is, the time to pull the trigger was then, I don’t see Adam’s moving younger, long-term assets in mid season unless the return clearly addresses both the mantra of “wants to be here” and the impact top 6 forward role. EP, while a great player, has some ? around him. I don’t see Adam’s doing it.

Maybe a fair trade would be Cozens for Josh Norris? Change of scenery kind of deal?

This will get laughed at and he's not an impact forward but Josh Anderson could be good for them and could be had for free

He's not a scoring threat anymore and he's overpaid but he's a great PKer, brings toughness on the bottom-6 this year and he's a great teammate. He's destroyed Tom Wilson and Trouba in fights this year.

If a team doesn't care about salary he's a perfect add for a bottom-6 playoff run, who could regain some offensive spark away from MSL's system.
Had for free, get real.

He is PK 1, will go 15/15, is probably the fastest big guy in the league and is a top 10 heavyweight. MSL loves him and he is a big part of the room. A very good room.

Yes he is frustrating because he should be better, but what he is, is pretty rare. Wtf would you trade a guy you can’t replace?

I think Sabres in no rush to make move this year. Unless they get a move to help team, they are not going to give up on cozens. Look at his stats and compare to EP in an off year. He’s adjusting to new style of play, Sabres won’t discard him that easy.

Is it discarding Cozens though if he’s being traded for Josh Norris? Imo that appears to be a fair trade, no?

Willander would be of interest to the Sabres… but as a few posters have stated, Vancouver would be foolish to move him.

Depends on the return for any player/prospect to be moved. If it’s Willander for Power is it Vancouver or Buffalo who is stupid?

Bring Barzal home. Let him play 2C. He'd probably be fun to watch with Hughes.

Send Boeser to the Isles. They'd then have the cap and roster space to re-sign him and Nelson.
