I may be excoriated by true Sabres fans as I'm only a casual "one of my second team" type of fans of the organization...and I say this knowing JJP has like 9 points in his last 5 games or something like that...Here are names that I would love to get that fit the criteria, and have at least a small chance of getting traded.
JJ Peterka
Shane Pinto
McTavish
And if you really wanna gamble
Zegras
But instead of selling low on Cozens - if I'm Buffalo, I absolutely would consider selling high on Peterka. Now, you'd have to come pretty big with an offer for a 23 year-old winger on pace for 65 points - but...for as slick as he can be, I do think he's a bit of a one-way, streaky guy - and I think that's just kind of in his DNA. And I think the Sabres have a clutch of youngsters coming through the ranks who have some similar traits, if not out-and-out potential.
I'm not sure if I'm the Sabres, I want to commit that full boat 7-8 year deal on a finesse winger (albeit a really good, young one) when my system is so loaded and I've already committed so long and so hard with the rest of my 20-something core and maybe want to save money to keep Byram in the fold. But for a team like Vancouver - to get a dangerous winger at that age, already proven and locked up for his entire prime would be pretty nice.
I'm not sure what Buffalo would want though. Obviously Willander is who they want and that's not on the table. More picks and prospects doesn't seem that enticing. Lekkerimaki and Ostlund had great chemistry back in Sweden and in a way, Lekkerimaki would be kicking the can down the road for Buffalo in terms of him potentially being a similar scoring winger in the NHL as Peterka. But I'm not sure how sellable that is and I'm not sure what other immediate assets of value Vancouver would have to give up that would be worth parting with a guy like Peterka.
