My comparison to your initial post was only in contrast to Drance’s initial take. That was the scope of the comparison. And if you want to die on the hill that your initial reaction wasn’t negative, that’s fine.

I mean, my literal reaction was 'I need to process this before I form an opinion' so I don't see how this is remotely similar to Drance immediately losing his mind.

Too, I believe there’s a difference between a one line during a game where any player can make you go “WTF” and giving an honest evaluation. That and I do genuinely believe Hronek as a defender has grown here.

I mean in this instance, it seems both want to have the last word and the arguing isn’t really of much substance nor is it going anywhere.

Yup, I disliked the trade too. Wasn't sold on the direction of the team or the player, but I was definitely wrong. Still think we sold low on Horvat too if we're being fair, the flat cap era was so nice for buying players

It’s not remotely similar in that Drance’s reaction was far more negative. But again, this board dunking on Drance’s initial reaction to the Hronek trade given the initial reactions to that trade on this board is absolutely a glass house type thing, and that was really the only point I was making.

And that's fair but there are plenty of reactions absolutely freaking out and my reaction of 'agree with the direction, value seems high, let me dive into this and digest before I form an opinion' seems like an odd one to single out. I'm one of the people who is NOT in a glass house here.

I think that's a stretch. The fact he's right about some things is unlikely to piss anyone off, but it may not convince them to appreciate his opinions.

For sure. But my point was never that your take was as negative or extreme or as wrong as Drance’s. But if you are going to dunk on someone’s take, and your take was also wrong but albeit not as wrong, then that’s throwing rocks with a glass house as far a as I see it.

Very very very few fans are capable of evaluating defenders. Even less can look at young defencemen and properly explain why they will or won’t succeed. It’s extremely difficult for professionals so most fans have no idea what they are even looking at.

How can you possibly evaluate the skills of hockey players if you've never really played the game or been on skates before? He has no idea what goes on in a professional sports locker room because he has no experience in that regard and the players, coaches and management won't tell sportswriters anything. Sportswriters are generally loathed in the locker room .Of course there are exceptions but generally guys like Drance probably have to defer to people in the game or former players for information because he generally has no clue.
