Canucks & NHL News, Rumours, & Fantasy GM | Chaos Week

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
is he rejecting the offers or rejecting the offer from certain teams ?

Eliot Friedman is a legit source. Called the Chicago buffalo rumours days before the actual trade finalized. But damn I’m with ya.
I brought this up but I see a higher scenario of Caleb maybe wanting out of the media and potential locker room drama, why doesn’t he get questioned like Reid and 5 years down the road between him and his agent figure they want out of under his father because he hasn’t developed as well or dealt with a huge backlash between media or the locker room.

Because he’s Manny’s son and Canadian? Manny went 7th overall and became a journeyman after some pretty high projections going that high in the draft, maybe he sees his career floundering and wants out of Vancouver for multiple reasons? Manny will put his sons best interests forward as a father and we could potentially lose both due to roster construction or media, imagine he deserves Captain of the team where he’s projected and does or doesn’t get it due to propaganda and never gets the opportunity to excel and ends up like his father as a 3rd line Center journeyman.

But that's a given - no one is signing for a discount/pennies on the dollar, especially with the franchise in its current state. We should have ample cap space, and it shouldn't be an issue. Blueger's interest in re-signing in Vancouver was reported back in March. It's pretty clear the organization has moved on and probably sees Raty taking his minutes.
Right it's a given but you two were arguing over how much meaning to put into Blueger saying he wants to stay.

Sort of like it’s quiet around this team right now.
Either we have no leaks or team is a bit overwheled and lack of experience is hurting.

I just don't buy the latter tho, because look at NJD GM, he is also brand new and made a great deal

Because Sunny Mehta is highly educated. He built their entire analytics department. This is what you get when you hire smart people.

The Canucks is what you get when you hire alumni.

Let's wait until after the draft and Free agency before we go full panic mode, no? He has not even made a deal yet, he could be cooking something big, we dono

Vancouver Canucks
  • Asked around about Hronek and has been told there’s nothing there
  • One of things that has changed is their willingness to retain on Elias Pettersson
  • Canucks are willing to do a lot of things with their veterans
  • Originally weren’t going to trade Pettersson without receiving a comparable centre in return and that has changed under new management
  • If Pettersson is willing to waive, the Canucks will accept picks, prospects, or young players in return
  • Have had a conversation with Hronek and his agent and there’s an understanding that he has complete control over the situation; he would like to stay in Vancouver
  • Management don’t want to alienate an important player; are trying to start a new culture

At this point Debrusk has the most value 3-5 days into free ageagency and the picks become 27 in a deeper draft. Holding one of the best assets is good after all the crazy moves being made around the league, there is supply and demand and not much supply with UFA at this point. 19 PP goals this previous year and 28 goals the year before (all included) at a $5.5 going forward is an excellent contract with proven playoff performance. Beauvillier went for a 2nd this last deadline and Debrusk gets a 1st + 100% with term and some patience. $5.5 going forward is a 3rd line forward with way less credentials as a UFA, he gets a ransom instead of Cap weaponizing in the new NHL.

But you're kind of comparing a situation where Reid is successful here vs Caleb struggling here. It's not a useful comparison. I think the concern that most have with drafting an American player is that the player may still want leave when the environment is good (perhaps not ideal but good) because they want to play in the US or to be closer to family. It's not much different from the old Russian factor.

If it comes to a point where Caleb is struggling under the pressure of playing for his dad and living up to hometown expectations etc. that's one thing. But Caleb's hometown and his mom's side of the family are from here and he's less likely to leave for reasons other than money such as opportunity and ability to win (unless there's evidence of him hating his family).

You were listening to that Pagnotta and Irfan DFO podcast right?

When Pagnotta stated that DeBrusk's contract (term and AAV) was excellent and that he would be in demand, it sounded so foreign because that isn't the general rhetoric here. I agree with him. I also think that's one of the reason's they're slow playing his trade. They know they have value.

The other bit about Pettersson loving VAN and always wanting to be here was nice... Even if it is too little, too late.

Mehta's had a really interesting career. Master's in Data Science, but then became a professional poker player. Worked for an options trading shop. Then got into hockey analytics, served as NJ's Director of Analytics, then did consulting for MLB teams, then back to hockey as AGM with the Panthers.

Lot of intelligent jobs there. And jobs that, very importantly, heavily involve calculating and weighting risks.

But hey, we have the Hockey Men.

Where does he want to go?

I think it's clear he wants to stay in Dallas, but wants them to up their offer.
Entitled clown wants 15 million and be on a contender at the same time. Like wtf.
I doubt he's asking for $15M. He doesn't want to play in Seattle because they suck and are perpetually mediocre.

Your commentary on Robertson makes absolutely no sense. He's supposed sign somewhere he doesn't want to go....for no reason? Do you voluntarily work at a job you didn't want in a place you didn't want to live despite having other options?
Sore loser how? He's simply refusing to sign a contract with a team he doesn't want to play for. How is that in any way a bad thing?
Yep. It's his contractual right to field some offers and see what's out there. The people badmouthing Robertson make absolutely no sense.

Like if you are offered a job you don't want, you literally do not have to take it. How is this hard for some people to understand?

Good news is Seattle strike outs may have to settle for Debrusk.

Bad news is Seattle would get ripped on pretty bad if they add another extra average in a sea of mids.
