Would love Bo back but can't see it happening. Still a lot of term and money left, and not sure if there's a trade to be made anyways.

I think with Miller gone and Pettersson/Hughes as the other main players, Horvat would probably be more open to coming back, possibly. It depends how much ill will he harbors towards management specifically.

Just to clear things up, I wasn't comparing Debrusk and Ehlers in stats or how they play, etc.

Just them as free agents. Ehlers isn't the same level as Marner or a marquee name. He'll get signed quickly but it'll probably be for a surprising rate. Like Debrusk. Teams that aren't big game hunting will find their target a notch or two lower.

I don’t think I’m saying anything crazy here, but what an absolute disaster of a target if you’re planning to buyout the main piece within a year or two.

It’s terrible that he’s had so many concussion problems, and I hope he has an amazing healthy life, but not holding onto JT Miller until the off-season, when the centre market is literally Sam Bennett, is just, and let’s be honest here, bad asset management.

Mancini being good
And getting Mpetey with the first rounder, is nice, but still not nearly enough for a guy like JT Miller.

Of course we don’t know what happened behind the scenes, but could they really not have handled it for another 30 games?

I guess it completely depends on what happened.

And I’m sorry for being negative
I didn't like the value of the miller trade at the time but that's what happens when there is only one option to trade with.

I think there's a chance. Weak UFA market with a rapidly rising cap usually creates an environment for that sort of thing.
The most comparable years for cap inflation are 2007 and 2011. 2007 saw Gomez and Drury get the equivalent of $13-14 million per year under next year’s cap. 2011 was less silly because Brad Richards got a retirement / cap circumvention contract but he was in the same range if you lop off the last couple years of his deal.

With Hoglander coming back the last couple months do you think they trade him or keep him?
Keep. Made sense to trade him for defensive help.

But since that's been rectified, trading him would only subtract for the need of scoring.

Only way for him to be traded would be in a package for a legit Top 6 C.

depends on how drastic the attempts to solidify the top6 are. hes still an option but not their top worry on who to jettison anymore, thats now chytil.

Major Jim Benning vibes with how things are looking.

Losing Suter and Boeser for nothing. Missing out on the playoffs. Ending up with a 16-20 overall pick….

The NYR pick becoming unprotected….

Dorrington and Fermstrom popping.

Allvin quickly establishing himself as one of the worst GM’s the league….the main difference that has masked things a bit is some lower end signings have worked out…

Sherwood and Lankinen.

But for each of those guys, there’s a Deharnais or Heinen or Kuzmenko where they’ve paid to move them.

Again, just an awful year and Allvin should be fired.
You can’t miss the playoffs and pick 16-20.

So with ehlers and his impending raise

I'm assuming the intention would to be playing him more ice time than what he has been getting which is made him a very efficient producer, the question is if you think that the uptick in ice time will reflect that with an uptick and scoring, I don't think historically it makes a difference mind you that maybe more applicable to the minute up to 24 minute range versus the mid teens range up to High Teens

For all the fancy player card people how is he defensively because you have to ensure that you're getting some value on some inflated contract that if his numbers stay relatively the same he at least can play in his own end of the ice

I think it all depends on who we're able to sign. If Marner is legit interested, you move out whoever necessary amongst the roleplayers to make the cap work barring Hughes. Ehlers is probably another candidate that sees Hoglander moved to make money work.

I remember saying who on earth is giving Mikheyev 5M then I said who is giving that much term and money to Jake Debrusk, Bruins couldn't even give him away a few years ago, now I'm going to say who is giving Nik Ehlers 10 million a year.
