Canucks & NHL News, Rumours, and & Fantasy GM | You incurred Vector's wrath and broke the site.

Boeser showed last night that if you play him with high IQ players who can move the puck quickly and make sure he's got a good F1 to play with he can be dangerous.

whether it's Boeser or Suter or both replaced we need a fast player and ideally a C in our top6

I like the player but that contract is not going to age well at all. He'd still be making close to 7m/year and is year 1 of SEVEN in that contract.

Would rather look elsewhere if we are going the route of trade for a top 6 forward but no idea who to target really.

For the bottom 6 - I'd like them to bring in some more sandpaper for cheap. Guys like Lorentz, Brazeau or Eyssimont would be worth a look in UFA

Personally I believe the bottom 6 is chock full of players already. Only if they are league minimum for the last spots, but even then far more important matters to attend to first. Last thing we should be worrying about or doing is blowing cap space in the bottom of the lineup. We should trade Hoglander too.

Sherwood
Joshua
Blueger
Lekkerimaki
DOC
Hoglander
Karlsson
Raty
Garland?
Chytil?
Aman

We are overflowing in that area.

@JohnHodgson I have to agree here Lindholm would be an ugly backwards move. Ugly ugly contract for a faltering player who is just looking worse and worse very year. It would be an admittance of defeat. There must be other targets out there even if we have to pony up all of our assets.

well he's been in the playoffs 6 times already so I am not sure you can attribute that to luck but I also believe that players really only need 1 good playoff series to really figure out how to be good in the playoffs.
It’s only 37 games though. You can see big fluctuations in less than a half season’s worth of games.

I could see an argument that his play drops off leading to a small drop-off in percentages, but that’s about a quarter of his normal regular season SH% and half of his on-ice SH%.

The bigger concern is his overall possession numbers drop off too. Will be interesting to see how he fares this year.

I am not sure how much it affects his numbers, but I think at least one yea he was playing pretty hurt. I think it was a wrist but I am just going off memory.

Also I would add even taking all his Playoff numbers together they are still all small sample sizes being put together. They can skew numbers, He is the type of player that to me, when the damn bursts its just going to flood.

Playoffs are about moments. I think his first playoff was a huge wake-up call for Nik, much like Petey last year.

Who's to say if WPG could cobble together some more playoff courage....things would be seen differently?

Ryan Kesler I believe had 3 assists in the Chicago series, and played lights out in game 7.

But we lose that 7th game, he never gets his Nashville moment and we probably talk about how much of a choker in the playoffs he was.

But that couldn't be further from the truth.

yes i think the year they went 3 rounds he had the bad wrist. He's pretty fragile at 170lbs. Do love watching him fly just not sure if he's a great target given the contract will be 7-8yrs and he will be 30 by next Feb and has been a ghost for the Jets when it matters.
Feel like the best value years are gone for this player and he will command close to a Nylander contract

Also have to factor into the equation that if the PP1 looks like this soon where does the big dollar acquisition fit

--------------------Debrusk
Lekkerimaki------xxxxx/Boeser----------Pettersson
--------------------Hughes

I think so many players will depend on contracts if I am interested. Especially with where the Canucks are in the cap. If he wants Nylander money... I don't think I would go that high.

Even on our big ticket guys we need to really make sure we plan well. I am less concerned about term as I am cap hit. Yes many contract could look ugly in a few years... but we need to be looking at short term and the next two seasons matter a lot.

I think we may end up dealing Hogs and Demko. I can't imagine either party agreeing on a contract going forward. Shame love Demmer.

Ehlers is almost as good as BROCK BOESER

Almost

Except playoffs

Playoffs are a different beast. There are many reasons players don't have good stats including team performance, role expectations, and personal adaptation.

He's a good hockey player first and foremost. That's where I would start. He's fully capable of playing well there.

Let's not forget Winnipeg as a whole have disappointed. Look what he did in junior ... in blue with Halifax Mooseheads.

I mean heck when your team bombs out of the first round 3/4 times I wouldn't expect stats to be great but that's reflective of the team and situation as well.

Ehlers was also playing hurt for that entire 15-0-7-7 playoffs.

Ironic that the team that had Miller Horvat and Pettersson is now a mess down the middle.

Gotta keep CBJ and BUF on speed dial me thinks....

Jackets have Fantilli (untouchable) Monahan Jenner Sillinger DelBelluz with Cayden Lindstrom (untouchabe) about to start making a push.

Would love to try and pull Sillinger or even DelBelluz out

Sabres have Thompson Norris McLoed Kulich Krebs Ostlund Helenius Wahlberg.

For a team going on 15yrs without playoffs would be a good idea to keep inquiring about a young C. Especially Ostlund and Kulich. Even Krebs would be a great value addition.

Would really love Sillenger... no clue the cost though.

He is gonna miss the whole year and I think the are reports he is contemplating NCAA next year. 32 games in the last two years he is not making a push for anything. Looks like a bad pick in hindsight.

I'd love Bennett at 6 yr 8.5M

Think he has elite skill to play in to his mid 30's. Good combination of speed and toughness. Would be a poor man's JT Miller. Would replace a huge need for our forward group. Would still chase a guy like Ehlers too. I think with Boeser walking we could afford both I just don't see Bennett reaching free agency as very likely. Sunbelt team will have him and his tax free ass at a discount before he reaches free agency.

I would vomit if the Canucks signed this contract.

want to see your roster with both? 8.5 for Bennett and you would have to move Demko or someone around that for the cap space to sign Ehlers

Agree completely with this - we need that gritty guy down the middle - right now we are sorely missing that.

Bennett is one of the last guys i see wanting to come to Vancouver after all the shit he took in Calgary and looking at our roster composition for him.

Would have to lay down a can't say no contract and fortunately Benning is not here anymore

Stylistically i get it but i just don't see it at all from Bennett's perspective. The fanbase here will eat him alive when they realize he's not that productive through the season and when he starts to slow down. He's also an ornery bastard and it's a bit of risk in how he fits the room

Important that we concentrate on a bit longer window as we start to fill the team with long term deals and the overall team speed aspect has to be a factor. Not to say it's not manageable for 3-4 yrs but again the contract and player seem like bad matches given what we are up against.

Short term would love it. I just think the probability is minuscule
