The bonus structure allows the player to pay state taxes on the majority of the income instead of having only 50% of it covered by that particular state. Is that correct? There's the benefit of getting more cash in advance, and a degree of savings on the taxes?
You need a couple million in space for the banking to be worth while at the deadline. So they really only have 2.75m in space now with 1-1.5m of that earmarked for a back-up.

Canucks had 15.49m in space before today and added 10.75m today. That brings them to 4.74m.
Yes they’d have to spend less than the 2-2.25 to actually accumulate anything useful, that’s a good point.

assume patera is the backup. subtract one league minimum forward salary and the tolopino salary from the existing cap usage showing on capfriendly which shows 3m for 24 players. that leaves roughly 4.7m to sign one additional player to create a 23 person roster.
optionally, if silovs is the backup, subtract patera's salary and they have $5.5m to sign silovs and one additional player.
The Defense took a big hit, hopefully something else happens, signing or trade. Forbort is a downgrade on Cole, Myers is stil in the top 4, not much cap space for a significant add.
10.75 spent on Sherwood, Heinen, Forbot and Debrusk
13.75 and Boston got Lindholm and Zadorov.
We moved Mikheyev+a 2nd round pick to make room for Debrusk?
Oh well, at least we didn't get Tanev for 6 years and Woll for the price we're paying.

Pretty easy sell. Play next to either McDavid or Draisaitl on one of, if not the best team in the West.
The Zad contract is good. The Lindholm contract is, IMO, not good.
DeBrusk is a big swing, but I like it. Sherwood and Heinen are really good value pick ups. Forbot is hopefully a good bottom pairing guy.
I don't mind our day, but am still hoping for some more D help.

wow. have to think guentzel used someone other than the canes for leverage to get that signing bonus structure out of tampa. if not us then there must have been another bidder.
Considering what other teams did Nucks had an okay day. Still need a scorer on the wings but that could be had at the deadline. Need a top 4 dman though. Defense took too much of a hit. Relying on Myers in the top 4 isn't smart and if Soucy can't stay healthy, it gets very weak.

Yes they may have fit well but they were only here a few months with no real reason to be attached to the franchise/city.
They need some wins. The Campbell buy-out, the Nurse and Ceci contracts, and Dry-Saddles upcoming demands are going to eat them alive.

As long as they have McDrai, they are going to be able to make these types of signings.

We would barely field a 23 man roster thats basically the same as last years with those Lindholm and Zadorov contracts procided Silovs comes in at around 1M.

Also, we have $3m in cap space, more balance in the line up and should be faster, harder to play against and with a better PK. I actually make that trade. We still need some depth on LHD and could really use a top 4 dman in the RHF side. I would like to see us sign sprong for the third line so we can move Joshua further up the line up.
I think if we get spring we can move out Garland to free up cap to get a dman.
