Canucks & NHL News, Rumours, and & Fantasy GM | The One where Friedman says we may do things. Or not.

Calgary got a point today. Canucks can now sell since they aren't in the playoffs again.
You joke, but this is exactly the way Aquilini sees it. Remember when he'd only evaluate Jim Benning on the next couple of games the GM isn't a player in, rather than the several years that had passed?

Im not reaching for shit.. gms take risk all the time..

Not pointing fingers but I just find it funny Demko and EP we hear have very similar issues and they are treated very differently by the fans. Of course it’s obvious why but they are both cromulent hockey players. It’s just one is “cooked” and the other is “recovering”.

I wasn’t around for the Messier days but back then any idiot could call into a local station and voice their voice.
Hey I'm one of those idiots eh.

Now we have twitter which just shortens the feedback loop for stupidity to flow faster now with zero breaks and now people double down because they think they are the majority. Echo chambers.
What do you refer to this place as then?

Yeah, but I count myself in on the idiot action too. Nothing wrong with being an idiot. Some idiots can learn and become gradually less idiotic. That's the whole working thesis for basic education, but the bar was set too low for my generation. Lots of idiots went through school coasting - I fall into that level of idiot. C's get degrees, but why settle, right?

I refer to it as HF, usually.

Jack Hughes got crush popped tonight. Looked like a bad shoulder injury. Will they pay up for Boeser to help bridge the scoring gap now Hughes is out? Or is there a centre out there they could get as a rental?
Been one tough year for the Hughes boys. I watched that play tonight, it looked eerily similar to the injury that knocked Jack out of half of last season....basically shoulder-first into the end wall.

The Devils are cooked if it is anything serious. They'd be serious contenders for Boeser to plug some of the scoring gap. But nobody is replacing Jack Hughes.

(Tied for 17th with -4 in 1st periods, 12th with +7 in 2nd periods, and tied for last in OT with -5)

Also the only team in the league to not have a single win when trailing after 2 periods

Those all seem like bummer stats....because they are. But to me, that just shows a team around the corner waiting to scare itself...and maybe a city? I don't know.

To but every man who sees "The Hangover" as a cautionary tale, there'll be an equal and opposite man, seeing an opportunity. You know? Life's a funny thing that way.

To date;
27 W - 32 L

21 RW + 6 OTW - 27W
32 L
Goal differential = -19

That last stat is overlooked, see the teams that make the playoffs the 20 yrs, the standings are almost the same as the goal differentials top to bottom.
Only a couple of times has a team with a negative goal differential has made the playoffs.
Last year two in the same division made it the Islanders and Washington, Both were blown out in the first round.

But on the plus side Washington has made some astute moves and looks way better this year

Moves that can't happen here, cap problems. Over 5.5 million spent on players playing against this team.

And they had a more solid winning team before last season, a winning culture.
14 of 16 years in the playoffs and a cup.

Last year, a fluke, even stated by Rutherford and Allvin that it was a surprise, the team had a +58 goal differential, 5th best in the league.

They certainly have that added motivation to get Ovy the record and he is scoring way more than any Canuck forward at 39yrs old

EP
Boeser (sign and trade)

For

Tage
McLeod

Feel much better about our C depth after that. Gives us more cap flexibility to take on some better wingers.

Save good amount of cap moving some garbage contracts out. EP + Brock is about 19 M combined. Tage and McLeod could be about 10.5M combined.

Also, I dont love Duclairs contract at all but he has shown the ability to be productive on a good team. I wonder if he is worth taking a risk on. Has size and fits the age group. If the Islanders would keep 1 mill per year it could be a steal of a trade.

At some point the 1&2RW would need a significant upgrade.

That leaves us w 4.2M CAP to address the 2RW plus Garlands CAP.

Looks like Brock is on the move, but nothing big will happen like petey.

But as long as Brock is signed for a good deal or move, I’m happy at the tdl

I don't know why anybody would expect us to be super aggressive. Boeser is the only name of interest and maybe a few depth pieces that do not move the needle.
