I thought he’d be a piece coming back to the Canucks for cap reasons in a Miller trade. He could be a good scoring depth acquisition. But I doubt he’s on our radar.

Meanwhile the Rangers in a similar playoff positioning to the Canucks and they are getting a 2nd+4th to dump Ryan Lingren on the Avs, and will likely get some middle round picks for Reilly Smith, capitalizing on a sellers market.

It all depends on what the owner wants. Aquaman wants one thing only. He's never going to allow what it actually takes.

They don't have much to offer in the way of draft capital and their stable of prospects is pretty thin. Not sure they'd offer up Samoskevich at this point and there isn't a lot of quality after that IMO.
Samoskevich would be awesome. He's just starting to pick up the pace playing under 12 minutes a game. Would love to get a player like this who has a boat load of potential.

Why would Buffalo trade Tuch for futures acquired in a Boeser trade? Their farm is full and they need NHL contributors badly.

Why would Buffalo trade Tuch for UFA Boeser? The chances of him signing are essentially zero, they have a much better shot at retaining their hometown player.

These are Libertarian-levels of superficial ideas here. The second you go a foot down the road in the thought process it collapses into nonsense.

The only way it might make sense is if they feel they can flip the futures for "now" players that fit what they are looking for.

Yep

Buffalo has no need for picks and prospects
Buffalo has no need for older UFAs
Most players likely aren't going to accept trades to and/or sign extensions with Buffalo before testing free agency

Get real, people

I agree Aquaman is the problem but I always find this argument funny. How many home playoff dates has this thinking actually gotten him the past decade+?

The management team needs to be able to convince him that chasing down the last spot is not going to work. You really need to be a top 10-12 team to reliably make the post season year after year. We are just no where near that.

We also don’t have a Vegas/Florida weather/tax advantage. It’s always going to be much harder building through UFA/trade for our team. That means we really do have to build through the draft. And that includes selling when it makes sense.

Given how much the Canucks and Sabres have scouted each other, my “surprise” deadline deal would be something around Pettersson for Cozens. Maybe other pieces involved, but both teams swapping underachieving forwards. I just don’t see much else on either team that A) one or the other would be willing to move, or B) addresses real needs for the team.

Florida just freed up cap space, but I don’t think they have the picks / prospects to take a run at a guy like Boeser. And I don’t see them selling a guy like Bennett while going for the Cup.

Reactions: Baby Pettersson
To do what with though, watch him for 18 games, miss the playoffs or get swept in the first round, and have him walk as a UFA?
It's just me, but with the Canes having missed out on extended Guentzel and now seeming like Rantanen would go to UFA, if they'd circle back on Pettersson just to be able to have a "superstar" locked in contract wise on the roster.

Rantanen would obviously need to be extended for the Canucks to think about that swap. But just something that's sat in my mind for a little bit.

could the canucks do a three way trade where they move boeser, take back a lesser rental and split the return for boeser with the other team?

reilly would fit that move.

And all that does is leave us likely in a spot where Rantanen walks, we're left devoid of all talent and assets, and 11.6MM of cap space in an era where the rising cap erodes what 11.6MM can get you.

Anybody trying to justify a bad trade by taking on a 90M dollar contract would be fired immediately.

Theirs making mistakes and then theirs insubordination
