I just looked up to see who was on our roster in December 2022—and it took me directly to Elias Pettersson's 5pt + shootout winner game against Seattle.

Didn’t JR say something, a while back, about the games coming out of the break will determine what the club does at the TDL? Considering that, it sure seems the players aren’t concerned about getting traded away. IMO any player, including Hughes, should be available.

I thought he’d be a piece coming back to the Canucks for cap reasons in a Miller trade. He could be a good scoring depth acquisition. But I doubt he’s on our radar.

Maybe this losing streak before the deadline is the best case scenario.
If we went 50/50, management might still trade a 1st for help, but in this case, they are getting kind of forced to trade guys like brock.

That players like Reilly Smith and Gustav Nyquist are going first is indicative to me that sellers have high prices—that many teams don’t want to pay.

Problem with this is that if the desired market doesn’t develop for a player like Boeser before the deadline—the market can crash hard right before the deadline. See Jake Guentzel last year.

He's the guy who teams grab if they miss out on Boeser...or they are turned off at the cost of Boeser.

It’s going to be interesting to see how this week plays out, especially if Hughes is out for a while. Allvin and Rutherford might be looking ahead to next season, but can they convince Aquilini to miss out on playoff revenue?

We 100% need to sell and collect assets. We have a lot of cap space too, which could be used to collect more picks. Then if Aquilini insists he can direct Allvin to use that acquired draft capital at the draft to trade for players. Sell!

I don’t think I’m especially in favour of just deciding to mortgage every pending UFA we have for mid picks. That’s not how we keep Hughes, IMO.

If you talk to guys like Suter and Forbort and their asks are too much, sure, go ahead and move on.

But the one piece I wonder about is Boeser. They can’t afford to let him walk for nothing if they don’t plan to keep him.

EDIT: The one guy I feel for sure will not be a Canuck by Friday is Soucy.

Imo Boeser must be traded. I could see re-signing Suter. But any other coming UFA should be moved if there is value. Move off Soucy too, if possible.
