Is Colorado going to effectively give Mits away?

If so, I'd be interested as EP could always move to wing for the time being or even Mits for that matter.

Could bridge until mgmt figures out what they want to do with EP.

It’s just one game but Mitts was awful last night, when he wasn’t invisible he was actively losing all of his puck battles. Just imagining him and Petey on the same line and I shudder.

Seravalli is such a ****ing moron man.
I listened to this segment on my drive in. He starts with saying MP isn't the best the Canucks could have gotten with a 1st, and that he doesn't move the puck well (dumb take). When asked who would be a better choice, FS just says, well we don't know right now.

Speaking out of both sides of his mouth. Got dumber just listening to him.

Marcus Pettersson
  • Don’t believe he’s a solution for the Canucks; not an efficient puck-mover
  • Thinks there’s a heavy recent bias in the Canucks front office that they can replicate the Hronek trade with this trade
  • Thinks a 5 year mid-5m contract is what to expect on an extension
  • Questions if there is a better fit and is asked if any names come to mind; doesn’t really answer the question
Bowen Byram
  • Teams are calling about him a lot
  • Really talented defencemen that’s an efficient puck-mover
  • RFA with arbitration rights makes a trade a little tricky
  • Hasn’t found the right team yet
  • Sabres truly believe that they should be better than what they are
Seattle Kraken
  • Ron Francis doesn’t step outside the box or do anything that isn’t required
  • Ultraconservative approach doesn’t work; Francis’ track record goes back to Carolina
  • Most mid team in the league; doesn’t see a path forward; Islanders of the West
Carson Soucy
  • Will eventually appear on the Daily Faceoff trade board
  • Is available but has a full NTC
  • Questions why he’s now available when they’ve been looking for defensive depth
Canucks Targets
  • Canucks are looking for a centre
Colorado Avalanche
  • Were calling about JT Miller but couldn’t make the money work
  • Are very interested in moving Casey Mittelstadt and finding another 2nd line centre
  • Avalanche can’t score since the Mikko Rantanen trade
Rantanen Extension
  • Have begun initial extension talks
  • Hurricanes acquired him knowing he will be expensive

Listening to this interview in the morning my goodness it really felt like Frank was dancing around the pushback on his MP take. It was pretty amusing to be honest.

Also when Brough asked about okay what other dmen is available that you would have said was a better fit for Vancouver he danced around that and said oh the chess board isn't ready yet etc etc.

He really seems to have a hate on for MP3.

It's one thing to probe around, prepare reports and get inside scoops on players and where they may end up, who's interested in acquiring them, ect. It doesn't mean a guy like Seravalli knows a lick about hockey or identifying talent and building a hockey team. (Which he has clearly demonstrated on several occasions)

I put zero credence into what they say. Same as Halford & Brough where I heard similar in Vector's write up. Who the heck are these guys and what is their hockey background? Did they even play hockey when they were younger or have any hockey experience?

Because of young D-Petey no. But if Mancini is somehow a stud then I don't see why we aren't open to trade proposals.

Like if we're somehow offered Leo Carlsson or Fantilli because somehow those teams has positional needs then would the answer be absolutely not? Of course not.
This is what I’m curious about. Like what if the Ducks offered Mctavish? Not that I know if the ducks need a shutdown RHD prospect, nor do I know if I would do it.

Here you can tell Seravelli is really trying his hardest to discredit everything the Orcas do, with nothing to back it up.

Sure, but lots could change over the next few weeks and if we fall out of contention, Forbort and Soucy will both be gone (imo) and the last 15-20 games of the year become development time.

I'd be awfully surprised if we put our first in play anytime soon, and you'd think it would likely be part of any package to bring in a young top 6 W/C. seems like a trade that is more likely going to happen on draft day vs TDL,

There are only 8 games until the deadline and we're in a 2-team playoff race 6 points clear of the 10th place team.

Unless we go 1-7 or something like that, we won't be selling.

That would be weird. Karlsson has been playing really well.

There are reasons for optimism about the roster following the trades, in my opinion. Chytil looks dynamic and has some playmaking ability when he has space. EP2 is playing well and looks very strong with an ability to just soak up and reverse contact of all kinds. Above all the D isn't just two or three guys now depending on health. The one thing that was 100% going to sink this team is no longer the case. The team could have taken other paths to get there, but it's there.

I’m not sure if Utah has any interest in futures but i wonder if a 2025 1st + 2025 2nd is enough to get you Hayton + Crouse.

No way imo. Those are both great targets but I don't see a way to get them (Hayton specifically) without giving up an equally good young roster player. Crouse for a 2nd or whatever, sign me up.

Kudryatsev

He's the 6LD (at best) on a team that can only dress 3 (maybe 4 if Soucy is put at RD) at once, and another better prospect has already put himself into a position to get any minutes that are available.

will caveat this to start by saying d-petey has been fantastic, and while they're also obviously shopping soucy, LD was already a strong spot given hughes, but with m-petey now...

*if* another gm is as impressed as we have been with d-petey, maybe the move is to shop him for a center, and then give a chance to kudryatsev for the 3ld spot. if he can't hold his own, no problem, bring back forbort for next season. maybe you keep forbort even if kud looks legit if willander will be in the lineup - been thinking a lot about what you said about icing/sheltering two rookie dmen.

like, if pettersson can land us a ryan mcleod/cole perfetti/shane pinto like player in return - a young, cost controlled, established middle-6 center - that could be worth exploring. and deals from what is now clearly a position of strength.

as excited as we all are right now, d progression is not linear, and while he looks like young edler right now, there's a lot of actual development that needs to happen to be the next edler.

Ya and the Ducks made a similar swap trading Drysdale for Gauthier.

Ducks have a glut of Dmen but how many of them are potential top 4 solutions on the right side? I feel expectations and evaluations can change quickly.

I myself am taking a somewhat cautious approach. First few games with the adrenaline still running in your veins after trades are made, and fresh young rookie stepping on the ice with big dreams, and, for the most part, elimination of unneeded drama, gives the guys lots of motivation and morale boost to work with.

It will always be when we have to sail AGAINST the wind, that true characters and leaders develop. Steel is made by the fiery inferno of the forge, not the gentle blossom of flowers.

That being said, for the first time this season, I see reasons for optimism - cautious optimism, but optimism nonetheless.

Right now my most immediate concern is Petey (not Pedey or Metey). He said he likes high pressure, and he's getting it. Every card has been dealt in his favor, and like I said before the team's basically did everything they could to accommodate him and ensure that he's happy, with as little obstacle as possible. He needs to get his shit together and step up his game.

Oh

He was injured

Just like the eye test suggested

Confirmed by all the other data

Huh

If I had waxed poetic about how Petey wasn't injured I would be pathetic

But I didn't

Instead I am just . . . you know

And don't get me started on criticizing a player who had to use the off season to rehab, and of course shows up at the beginning of the season less prepared than others

Oh wait, the coach and GM didn't call out Demko

Again, huh

Seravalli is such a ****ing moron man.
This interview was painful. I’m paraphrasing but it was basically:
“Canucks overpaid for MP”
“Oh yeah? So he was a bad addition?”
“He’s not bad, but there’s better fits”
“What would be better fits?”
“It’s not the fit, it’s that it happened quickly”
“Allvin probably talked to Pittsburgh before this though and didn’t just pull trigger instinctively no?”
“There’s 6 weeks until deadline, I’m just saying there’s better fits”
“What are those better fits then?”

Rinse. Cycle. Repeat. Terrible terrible insider and it’s shocking he gets the attention he does.

Imagine thinking that MP3 is going to sign 5 x 5 and being negative about it.
He got called out for his bad MP3 take and instead of actually watching him play to see how misinformed he is he chooses to double down instead, what a clown.

I really enjoy listening to Halford and Brough, but I hate when they bring Seravalli on. I was shaking my head when they had him on and he was claiming that Boston is in a better spot to make the playoffs than Tampa, and he kept harping on the Sergachev trade being the trade that closed their window, completely unaware that JJ Moser is a better player (and younger) + they got Conor Geekie and he's already in the NHL at 20.

Already almost blind trying to bleach my eyes thanks to the lovely photos of commando Dimbo supplied by fellow HFers, now I'm gonna go bleach my ear holes after listening to that interview.
