Which Franchise Player Would You Rather Have in Their Prime?

50 goal, 100 point Norris winner who is top 5 defensively.

Option 1 is peak Fedorov.

Option 2 is peak Ray Bourque with double the goals.

I think #1C’s and #1D’s are more important than goaltenders so I didn’t consider Option 3 too much, even though the goaltender would be insane.

I’ll go in order
3, 1, 2.

Hard to beat 0.950 save percentage, you’d win a lot of games. (0.944, then 0.940) are the 2 highest ever in one season, let alone over their prime.

Good luck winning vs a team in the playoffs with a 950 goalie, especially in todays high scoring league.

A .950 covers a lot of warts. Most dominant position in professional sports imo.

A .950 save% is so far above a top goalie today that I don't think you can possibly say no to that.

That .950 needs to change to a .930 or so for this to be a legitimate debate. A .950 goalie in today's NHL would be by far the best goalie ever.

For context,

Turning Hellebucyk into a .950 goalie is preventing 28 goals so far this season over what he's already done.

The Jets have allowed 131 goals. They would turn into a 103 goal against team, or by far the best in the NHL. Right now the Kings lead with 126 GA.

A .950 goalie in today's NHL is unstoppable. The difference between .950 and Hellebucyk is the difference between Hellebucyk and a backup.

When I did this a while back, they suggested I change the .930 to a .950; looks like I haven't learned my lesson lol. Maybe I should redo the poll with a .930-.940 to get a more even matchup

Initially my lean was to the 100 point Norris D, but .950 is so much higher than any current goalie that it's hard to pass that up. Hasek's best season is .937.
