Funny, Sat is saying don’t be surprised if MPeteys number hits 5M that seems low, is he way off or is MPetey not worth as much as we think.
If they can get him in that range, it’s a no brainer. They could run out Pettersson, Pettersson and Willander next year for basically the same price as Soucy, Desharnais and Forbert.

I wouldn’t put much stock into this.

He’s been weirdly low on MPetey since the trade. I listened after the trade went down and he called him a 4/5 dman and questioned if he was an upgrade on Soucy/Myers

Canucks Army speculating that the Canucks and Marcus Pettersson are zeroing in on an extension. Clearly Rutherford and Allvin have been targeting this guy for some time.

But what does it mean for Soucy? My feeling is, he won't survive the TDL. There was a reason why they didn't send D-Petey back down. They could be seriously auditioning him for the rest of the season as a cheaper, and more effective, left-side d-man.
TDL is the ideal time to trade Soucy as depth D return the most at that time from contenders. If we can somehow convince him to waiver his NTC (I'm shocked he has one to begin with), that would be the best time to do so.

I'm fine with MP at 6-7 years at around $6.5m per, seems like fair market value, or even slightly above, and our LSD will be very solid (actually became a strength along with the emergence of DPetey and a couple other prospects).

I'm curious what it will take to re-sign DoC? I was always a fan, and he brings some attributes we sorely need (size, speed, PK utility). I would give him Heinen's cap hit at $2.25m, but I'm not sure that is enough? I don't really want to spend too much on a bottom 6 winger though.

I think the estimates I'm seeing here are a little crazy. We're talking about a steady but 20-25 point defender who is playing with hall of famers. I think $6 is even pretty high for him. He doesn't score goals and just collects assists.

Those calculation sites are usually pretty accurate. They have him at $5.85 which I think is fair over 5 or 6 years. Really happy with his first game but let's not go all crazy here either.

Josh Norris at $8M and Filip Chytil on the same team would be insane given their injury histories, but it’s probably a type of bet we’ll need to make and hit on

What do we feel like the cost would be on a deal like that? Ottawa doesn't strike me as a rebuilding group, and would probably want some sort of "help now" assets.

I can’t really imagine what it’d be unless it’s like Boeser or Chytil as a forward out, forward in deal. Maybe they want Carson Soucy?

norris probably costs them lekkerimaki and a pick. maybe a 2nd and not the 1st though? or maybe ottawa has interest in boeser but i doubt it

Not high on Norris at all. Doesn't impact play much offensively or defensively. His value is primarily purely from finishing, historically.
Short of signing Marner or Rantanen, there isn't much out there in terms of an elite forward via UFA. Nor are teams really itching of trading U27 guys who are established top liners. The odds of drafting a guy who could develop into an elite forward are slim unless you are picking top 5.

The next best thing is taking flyers on guys who could potentially break out. Norris would have been a last resort addition a year ago....unfortunately, we are sort of in a bind now.

His real value would be primarily in that he's BFFs with Quinn Hughes and what it would mean for a Hughes re-signing to have Norris here.

As a player, he has a very similar profile to Brock Boeser so you'd think the thinking would be that you replace Boeser/Boeser's cap space with a younger version, make your captain happy, and then potentially flip Boeser for a bigger asset haul than you spent on Norris.

I can't imagine the cost for Norris would be terribly high given his production relative to contract and his injury history.

Let Boeser go, Use the 8.5m cap space we save to Resign 3Petey for 6m long term and Oconnor for like 2m+ mid term.

Then use the assets from the boeser trade + the assets we already got and get 1 Top 6 winger from a trade and 1 from a UFA Target.

Defense is good right now.

Quinn Hronek
3Petey Myers
Soucy Willander
DPetey / Forbort

Trade Soucy when you can, he goes limited NMC in the offseason.

This team will be much improved.

Also, if you CAN get a legit young 2c in a trade, trading Lekk + a 1st +
You make that deal

Would love to be wrong and MP comes in at around $6m per, but with the new cap limit and the scarcity of quality D, as well as the fact we just traded a 1st for him, I think he has all the leverage at this point.

Hope they don't give him too much trade protection. Would be nice to have the option to move on from him after couple seasons, if we need to.
