he called him that after a scruffle in practice.

Chirst this was a week after his teammates tried the intervention for the two work out their differences in Florida. What a prick.

You'd really think people wouldn't be offended by being called a p***y, but it's a weird f***ing world out there.

It's 2025...we have bigger fish to fry than inane argumentative language.

that's not why he's a prick. In a vacuum it's fine, whatevery, players get spicy in battle drills sometimes.

He's a prick because of the new information we have today: A week before this, Miller's teammates urged them to put aside their differences to get along Miller went and showed how little he respects what they asked of him.

He's not a Canuck anymore, you are allowed to really let him have it _now_.

Did anyone catch Friedman's Saturday Headlines? He mentioned a small group of Canucks got together and asked management to solve this issue during their East coast trip. In Florida specifically. That was OCT 15 - 17. Literally game 3 to game 4 of the season. Yikes, and management let this fester for 3 months.

I don't mind holding on to Miller when trying to trade him. Time and time again we see that high end players with NMC's, especially if there's some sort of catch to the player, take a long time to trade if you want to actually get value. Rangers were sticking on retention and once they let that go the deal was done, I'm glad we hung in there an extra month to avoid retaining, an absurd demand but it is what it is.

I blame management for telling Miller to get on EP's ass, literally the dumbest idea ever, and for not trading our 1st for MP in November. Do the MP deal early and Miller would have still been traded but the season probably looks a lot different.

I'm sure it wasn't about getting called a p***y once and more about many years of bad blood coming to a boil because the loud abrasive guy suddenly got the blessing from mgmt to go after him and ramped up the abrasiveness... we don't know details of exactly what happened but it's easy to see how that conflict could have escalated very quickly.

It damn near tore the team apart, and still may.

But it was the best thing for Pettersson. Whether he likes it or not, he WILL have guys giving extra attention. That is the nature of the game. It all unfolded pretty well organically, come in to camp in f***ing shape. You get paid $11.5 million a year, you must play as many games as you possibly can, and you must perform well in them.

What Petey probably didn't stop to think, is maybe *I* was wrong. Because all he's really done now is jettison the only guy sticking up for anyone out there out of town. Hopefully he's strong enough to take it - mentally and physically.

Of course, did 9 have to go after him that hard? No. But it would be brutal to work your ass off, knowing your career is winding down and your peak is closing and then the guy who's supposed to provide you backup has been picking his nose all summer.

Seems like EP found himself his first "fan" group of friends. Hello, EP. This is Vancouver, we're a bunch of f***ing morons who think we're smart because we were born on 3rd base. We literally rioted over a hockey game. That about says it all.

That Wayne Gretzky comparison as a rookie can f*** with your head. What a stupid f***ing comparison that was, as well. I still see it stylistically, but it's still an incredibly irresponsible comparison to make.

Not everything is a 'locker room issue'

Sometimes players and teams, can just play like shit.

It literally was and is a locker room issue. Everyone confirmed it, the breadcrumbs are there.

I'm sorry but this just sounds like copium to me. Hate to piss on everyone's party.

Soucy was communicative, then he became shit.

Loving this pickup though, he was a top 2 dude in Pittsburg.
Metey has a lot more of a track record being a legit top-4 D-man compared to Soucy.

We should be extremely disappointed if Metey doesn't perform like a player that is a legit tier above Soucy.

He's averaged over 22 minutes with the Pens the last year and a half, led them in average TOI on the PK over that period, and has posted decent possession stats at ES while starting mainly in the DZ, if he can do that here and be a solid #3 guy, and they re-sign him, it's what they've been looking for since the summer.

The final verdict on the two deals can't really be determined until they use the additional cap space. If that goes towards a decent top 6 forward who's younger than Miller and can provide some goals and physicality, then you're getting:

MP, Chytil, Mancini, O'Connor, a top 6 forward
for
Miller, Heinen, VD, Brannstrom, Dorrington, and Fernstrom, plus whatever they add to get the top 6 forward.

It doesn't look too bad at all, especially with Miller turning 32 next month with several years left on his contract. They are going to miss Miller's competitive fire and production, at least for now, but the 1st they gave up to the Pens is what could really come back to haunt them.

Chytil is a huge risk injury wise, and they had to package out two UFA's they should never have signed in the first place, but solid #3 D come at a premium, and if Mancini works out, a big, physical, mobile, defensive RHD on the third pairing is a nice add. Teams that stockpile D assets also have way more options in the trade market, they need to keep adding them any way they can.

Now do EP40. I don't think he's safe, and I'm good with that.

One of the biggest + factors is Soucy can drop down. Part of the reason I think he was better last year was he didn’t have to play so high up the lineup.

Miller had to go, they salvaged a decent deal. Flipped the pick (ala Hronek) and picked up a perfect #3 guy which this team has desperately been needing.

There’s still a hole offensively but I think they can add a couple really good ufa guys with all the cap.

Will we finally see this team weaponize their cap?

Miller, I will probably be sanctioned again, I painted a picture of events and had my hand slapped because I didn't get another "owned" show host to quote his idea's as a "legit"source. Funny when a legit source is a sports show host's thoughts even when they say they don't have a credible source.

On EP, a show host said that he heard from someone in the front office that EP wanted to stay, unsubstantiated, and Allvin said EP and MILLER were committed to play here, committed can have different meanings, a desire or contractual. Then that show host is quoted as a source.

Boeser. Now some show hosts say there have been no talks, then Allvin says all the time. But evaluation is ongoing. Boeser isn't playing at a 40 goal pace so far so? Allvin says they have control until July 1 but they will see around the TDL where the team is? I wonder what the magic line is for determining that status. Just this years standings? How other teams are performing? What makes them decide and how long do they wait? The wait part is what I wonder about because that could mean they aren't doing anything until that decision, NO PLAN, just reacting.

Allvin, did he learn from his mistakes? Will he take Rutherford's advice now? Rutherford has stated all along that long term contracts for older players often don't age well. Signing a player to age 34 if that player isn't a significant play driver is likely doomed to failure. Boeser's agent IMO will want term and salary comparable to some recent signing's but also commensurate with the cap going up. This team still has to deal with one of Allvin's other mistakes, that 4.75 mil OEL buyout hit.
Just how will he evaluate EP now? Base it on the last 100 games? Or what he thinks might happen, hopes could happen, dreams of glory? IMO EP is a time bomb that nobody is sure of except for another 7 years paying 11.6 mil for a 70pt player. EP isn't a kid needing to learn how to play or have a winning attitude he is a veteran and will be 27yrs old this year in November. How much runway does he get? And did Allvin learn from Miller's NMC how that will diminish any returns once it kicks in and add difficulty to any negotiations? EP now with an excuse is worth way more than EP with no excuses and holding the hammer. If traded just get a lot of futures they take time to evaluate so a winner or loser can take time.

A question I haven't heard asked, where does Allvin get his opinions of the fans? Does he have a source or sources, just a generic idea of what he thinks all fans DEMAND, his employed media people or reactions from the arena? Because when he does talk about fans it sounds like what he wants, not what fans have or will endure if there is a plan. It is like the last 9 years is forgotten. For him it might be new but for fans it is just another episode of a soap opera. Same actors, same story lines with the same non-conclusive results. The names are changed but the story is the same. Has he had a sit down with an actual fan or unscreened fan group? Unaffiliated, not season ticket holders, just random fans. Like Linden tried as a town hall thing only without players sitting there. Those fans will ask hard questions. While questions about individual questions can be asked the answers would not be clear. BUT what management's idea's for the future might be clarified and defined a little more.
I find the Rogers sports shows and Dhali are most often extremists and they are paid entertainers. Trade Hughes and the franchise is doomed but it wasn't 4 years ago, but now it is, do absolutely ANYTHING to keep him here but never mention the team really has very little they can do. So one question is there a Plan B when they decide he is moving on? Is there a date when they can ask him? Or is it better to just make his departure Plan A and work with the absolutes for the betterment of the club?

Cap goes up from 88 mil to 95 mil for all teams except the Canucks, OEL's buyout increases taking some of that away. Maybe not as significant now but still hampers the Canucks a little unless they can get RFA controlled NHL players during that added buyout period. That would mean or need a plan wouldn't it?

It's one of the most shocking trades in North American sports history. It's like if you traded a 25 year old Gretzky for a 32 year old injury prone complimentary piece. Dallas fans are burning their jerseys and posting it on twitter and there are reports of mini riots happening all over.

Edit: THE most shocking and absurd trade.

It would be like the Canucks trading Quinn Hughes to Edmonton for Mattias Ekholm.

After sleeping on it, I honestly believe we are a much better team now. Marcus Pettersson basically plays top 2 minutes with the pens and is usually in the top PK unit, O’Connor is also in the top PK unit.

I think we’ll be surprised. Our defense has become solid. With Hughes, Hronek and Pettersson leading the charge.

We are not a better team now, let alone a much better team. Who will score goals? Doesn’t look like Pettersson will be because he’s been a ghost for a year now. Who will be winning key faceoffs? Who will replace Miller for matching up to other teams best players? Who in our top 6 has enough grit and toughness to play those hard games? We’re so soft now it’s ridiculous

Over 12 million in capspace for the deadline is actually kinda nuts. Hopefully we can weaponize it. Hell we can still make a push for the playoffs with an add and still take on a bad contract as a 3rd party just to acquire some futures. Hopefully management has a plan to take advantage of it.

Canucks should be moving off as many contracts as they can, Boeser included. Only guy I’m keeping is Lankinen.

Then go big game hunting in the off season, Ehlers or Rantanen would be my targets.

Bennett probably resigns but he would be my centre target.

When the Canucks sucked a couple years ago, they only moved 1 core piece. Horvat out, Hronek in.

This time, there needs to be more than just 1 player. This core ain’t it.

Boeser going would actually change the entire outlook of this change and the core would be completely different. Love Boeser but I just think it’s time.

Move him for assets/cap space and set yourself up.

Raty, Lekkerimaki, Willander should all be ready to step in next year.

Juulsen, Forbort, Suter and Boeser can go bye.

Dealing with Issues Internally
  • When the Canucks were in Florida, earlier in the season, a small group of players got together and tried to get Pettersson and Miller to work out their issues with each other
  • Was hope that after Miller's leave of absence, things would get better
  • Miller didn’t ask for a trade but everybody knew it was time for him to move on
  • Rangers were the most motivated buyer and he wanted to go there

Then a week later, Miller slashed Pettersson in practice.

However you look at Miller's impact in the room in the past, and his popularity with his teammates, this clearly shows that he was unwilling to listen to the team's leadership and was out of control.

Then 3 weeks later he goes on a 10 game leave of absence for mystery reasons, and comes back and doesn't do anything to make amends?

Coming into the season, I was a huge JT Miller fan. But you just cannot compete when a player has gone rogue like this. He needed a change of address. Maybe Pettersson does too. But Miller certainly had to go.

Canucks trade pieces still available:

1st Rounder
2nd Rounder
Brock Boeser (If not resigned) (UFA)
Lankinen (If Not Resigned) (UFA)
Lekkerimaki ( only for a major package )
Pius Suter (UFA)
3Petey ( UFA, If not signed by TDL)

Needs: Top 4 D, Top 2 Center, Multiple top 6 Wingers (If Brock is moved)

This makes Tocc asking JT to "toughen up" EP even more ridiculous. What was he thinking?
I will say that Friedman's timeline seems a little inconsistent.

We are missing a bunch of context but I'm guessing that the players discussed both the preparation issue and the way that Miller was acting towards Pettersson in that meeting. We really don't know how Pettersson's injury affected his summer training, but he definitely looked distracted at the beginning of the season, and preparation can be as much about the mental side as the physical. When Miller didn't see Pettersson improving on the timeline that he would have liked, he went rogue.

Miller's "motivational techniques" were obviously bound to backfire. I would bet years of resentment boiled over, not helped by the fact that Pettersson was making much more than Miller at that point.

I think when you have a big personality like Miller's in the room, you have to have others that are able to keep him in check. Could the Sedins have handled Kesler on their own, or did they need Bieksa to keep him in line? I don't think this team has anyone like that. But you really do need that Kesler / Miller type of player who can break open games. So it's hard to see where the team goes from here.
