The one that perplexes me is Colorado. You make that Rantanen trade because you don't like the contract rumours and you want to get deeper.

Miller trade would have let them get off the guy they want to get off the most in Mittlestadt while buying low on elite talent who would absolutely fit in with Mackinnon's vibe.

There was a window for them to do it before NYR came back to the table yesterday.

Just a mindblowing miss for them imo.
I don’t really get why they wouldn’t be willing to move Ritchie in a situation like this. Stanley Cup vs prospect cup.

I actually think Carolina missed out too. Don’t get me wrong, Carolina is better with Rantanaan, but I think they would be better with Necas AND Miller than just Rantanaan, even though he is the best player of the 3.

Just trade Hoglander+ for Cozens and call it a day. Buffalo gets more sandpaper and Tuch can move back to center. With Kulich stepping up beside Thompson and Peterka, Tuch back as the 2nd line center, and McLeod doing really well as their 3rd line center, Cozens is redundant on that team, especially for his cap. He hasn't lived up to his contract (and has been very unlucky this season so....)
Man, Tuch has never played center. I'd be happy to get rid of Cozens, but maybe some GM likes him and we could get an RD for him somewhere, and we don't need any more wingers right now. Our idiot GM said he's going to re-sign Zucker and Greenway (not sure if he can do it though). We still need a 1C or at least a top 6 C. Someone like Power could be a trade chip for that.

For you whippersnappers that can't tie your shoelaces because of velcro, and wouldn't be able to dial a rotary phone if your life depended on it - and have no idea what a shared land line is - you can start edumacating your selfs here:

oh i got the reference. it's just nobody my age watched that show.

Am I losing my mind? I swear he was playing center for a while. Need to go give my head a shake lmfao - must be mixing him up with someone else. Is Thompson done playing center? Kulich looks to be the center of choice right now.

Didn't hear about wanting to re-sign Zucker... Figured he was a one year stop gap or an asset to trade if the team wanted to shake things up. I was under the impression the D is relatively locked down and the team needs more tenacity and consistent forecheck presence in their top 9.

I see PDG has been placed on waivers again. I assume he's coming out for O'Connor. But also might mean they're keeping Karlsson up for a longer look.

And with Marcus Perttersson coming in, I suspect it's back to Abbotsford for Raty, Elias Pettersson II and maybe PDG. Would definitely prop up the lineup of the Abby Canucks.

Thompson has almost always played center, not Tuch, but he is now playing on the wing and he is not a typical center at all. Basically, both Thompson and Kulich are players who like to shoot and they always have more goals than assists, and we really lack a top 6 C playmaker for our wingers. I would prefer to keep one of Thompson/Kulich on the wing and get a top 6 C playmaker somewhere else.

So far the line Peterka - Kulich - Thompson works great and I think there is no point in destroying it at this stage.

Must've mixed Tuch and Thompson when I was catching a few games. My bad.
If the team wasn't so bad a guy like Granlund may have actually been a cheap get.

So in terms of this years on ice team:
Out: Miller, Heinen and PDG
In : Chytil, Pettersson and O’Connor
Plus cap space room from Miller deal.
On paper we look a bit stronger and have cap space to further improve.

What asset fits this description that’s actually available with the assets Canucks have?

Canucks don’t really have a lot of trade assets. Couple of B-Tier defensive prospects, two blue chippers that I really can’t see them trading, Hoglander, and some draft picks. Biggest asset might their ability to take on a bad contract in order.

Like say a Josh Norris or Dylan Cozens but at minimal cost because you can take on the full salary. Lawson Crouse would be a fun buy-low candidate.

Don’t know about that, you get the superstar level guy if you have the chance.

Josh Norris' name is out there, but I don't think there's any chance if we're looking at a deal before season's end. Ottawa is near the top of the heap of the playoff pileup in the East and is more likely to be a buyer than seller.

I guess the Av's figured that with cap going up, Rantanen wouldn't re-sign for anything less that $14m a season.

But if there's even a remote chance that Carolina won't buck up to re-sign him, then the Canucks should back up the Brinks truck to his door. Adding Rantanen, would make Canuck fans still pining for the departure of Miller, forget about their pain in a hurry. He's that good.

this is usually a draft day type deal? And the player usually comes with question marks (think PLD)

Well yes, however the reason for that is because of cap space issues.

The Canucks have tons of space so they could be the only team willing to take on a massive contract now.

Another player with an injury history. Maybe if we collect them all, they become stronger together.
