The team isn't a mess.

Lankinen/Demko is good goaltending.

Hughes/Hronek/M. Pettersson/Myers/E. Pettersson/Forbort/Mancini/Willander is a good defense.

Joshua/Chytil/Hoglander/O'Connor/Blueger/Sherwood is a good bottom 6.

The problem is just the top 6.

DeBrusk/Garland are good complementary wingers but a lot of hinges on Pettersson and which version of him we will get. Same goes with Boeser if he stays. I'd say we are two top six players away from being a really good to great team.

The top 6 really hinges on whether Pettersson returns to form or not. If not this team is in trouble.
Would love to somehow get Rantanen

Liam Ohgren who has played with Lekkerimaki in the past is the perfect "1st round pick" equivilant to be seeking in a Boeser trade.

I wouldnt even expect much of an add on top.

Man after all of these years and top draft picks , I still can’t believe the Sabres are in such disarray and dysfunction.

I feel for that fan base I really do , I was once a Sabres fan as I am from near Niagara Falls Ontario , but now I bleed Canucks .

Great haul for Nelson. Lou isn't completely senile yet and it bodes well for a Boeser return to at least land a 1st or prospect equivalent.

At this point Scott Laughton will be traded at age 80 and there will still be a bidding war of 1st rd picks for him.

Jesper Wallstedt is the target with Demko’s injury history and Lankinen’s new deal. We can easily retain if needed and then you have the Demko chip to unload. I’d be poking in Carolinas ear with the JR connection. Carolina is very cost controlled and Brock at $8 million is a 40 goal guy for them. The salary between Boeser and Demko lets you resign Rant and add to your forward group in the offseason.

They also have a goalie Gustavson for the future.
