no, not even close. Do not ever ever ever normalize Benning. This management group quickly went from a big time upgrade on Benning to are they actually worse than Benning?

Yep. I said it then. They should not have traded the Rangers' 1st. Has the potential to be an extremely valuable piece, where if they get lucky could transform the Canucks as a franchise.
Maybe but honestly, I can’t see the Rangers falling off like that againIt would have been another lottery ticket in the McKenna sweepstakes.
This should not need to be said, and yet can not be said enoughno, not even close. Do not ever ever ever normalize Benning.
It's hard to imagine a team with Shersterkin being bad enough to be last, also without their 1st, they are going to move heaven and earth to be better next season. It would have been another lottery ticket in the McKenna sweepstakes.

no more in hire system. been there done that. let malholtra coach in abbotsford and deal with the kids. develop them. find someone else with a better resume. i know its the recycled coaches but there should be some names avaliable. Dave Hakstol

Having JT for a full year and a new coach will help imoi don't really see how the rangers get much better. they're aging badly and their "youth" movement has mostly failed. they've got gabe perrault probably joining the team next season but other than that they are running it back with what they have
Because they wanna probably trade there 1st this year for upgradesWait why are the Rangers not giving up their pick which is at 13 this year? Which would making it rolling unprotected to 2026 a moot point.

You would still basically need to move out money in any deal or at some point. It also, seems like it would be too complicated for Rangers management. Heck they need to move money to sign their RFA’s, but maybe they use the pick to try to do both. Or they find a team that values Kreider as positive assets.drury is probably fired if the rangers miss the playoffs again. he has no reason to convey the pick now when he could keep it and trade it for help
maybe ownership steps in and stops him tho i guess
probably try really hard to trade away a bunch of guys too. They are going to do eveything they can to move off of Kreider and Zibanejad and they will probably pull it off, there are always sucker GMs around. Doesn't matter that they have NMC, they will probably waiveHaving JT for a full year and a new coach will help imo
That would make the pick next year even less likely to be high. The chances that pick ends up 1st OA are hilariously overblown.drury is probably fired if the rangers miss the playoffs again. he has no reason to convey the pick now when he could keep it and trade it for help

I haven't looked in earnest but I think Cole Sillinger would be someone who could shake loose this summer.
He's not a sexy addition but J.G. Pageau would fit as a reliably productive right-handed centre.
The health of Pettersson of Chytil really complicates things.
Another option would be to re-sign Suter and go after a play driving winger.
i think this was true when the canucks held the islanders protected pick and people were salivating over having a shot at celebrini but i think the rangers have a shot to be really awful next year. their top six is 5 guys over 30 and gabe perrault/will cuylle. their defense is just bad. sheshterkin could carry them but he's struggled a lot this year. he could also have a down year next season
I think that part is super evident. I think a lot of folks still think the current management can’t scout and trade. We all have PTSD from Benning
Cole Sillinger - What would be the ask I wonder? It's the kind of bet that we should make but would 1st + Hogz or something be enough? Probably not.
100%. It's pretty rare for GMs to deal consecutive first round picks, especially when they haven't made the playoffs three out of the last four years. In the same mailbag Drance has this to say about their 1st round draft pick.
Given these dynamics, I’d actually be somewhat less surprised to see the Canucks deal their 2026 first-round pick (lottery protected, rolling over to 2027 unprotected) as part of a larger deal this summer as opposed to trading their 2025 first-round pick.
I generally agree to this. I wouldn't be shocked to see them trade their 2026 pick and use the 2025.
