This Dobson rumour is worrying. How much of a benefit would he be if Hronek and/or Myers are shoved down the depth chart? Neither have been bad this season, when not anchored by a certain someone.

Pageau, Nelson, Barzal....or Horvat....would all be better targets.

But if we're talking replacement centers, Seattle seems to have a bunch of them. Gourde is injured and UFA, so I feel could likely be had for a song. McCann and Stephenson are more who I'd be looking at, but wouldn't be as rentals, given what I imagine their cost to be.

It's a rumour so massive spoonful of salt, but it sounds like the Isles initiated as they're looking to move Dobson for a centre? Canucks could just still be screening what's available.

Important distinction.

You guys are high on nostalgia. Draisaitl is stylistically similar and scores 100-130 points playing with McDavid. You think Lemieux would score 2-3x as frequently? I could see 150-200 but no player in any pro sport is that dominant.

The only way someone would score 300 points is if you took current McDavid and teleported him back to the 80s/early 90s with the benefit of all of his current training and equipment. His skating + puck handling package would make him basically untouchable and he’d be able to routinely score from outside the blue line due to the quality of goaltending at the time.
I think that Lemieux is the best player I have seen in my lifetime and I don’t think that Draisaitl is a good comparison, at worst it is McDavid that you would compare him to. Also to note those Pittsburg teams had more depth in scoring and that helps. I don’t believe the NHL has a comparable to Mario or Wayne currently to be honest.

Replace by committee until a legitimate replacement option arrives. There will be an opportunity to make a trade.

I could also see them going after Marner in FA. Say what you will about his playoff performances - he gets it done every year in the regular season and he's never played with a defenceman like Hughes. Mitch just needs to get the f*** out of Toronto and away from his psycho Dad.
But he isn’t a center

I assume it’s a nothing rumour as Lou doesn’t operate when info leaks.

But I would see the sense in getting Dobson as he is the best single asset you could probably get. He could be a piece that nets you a top 6 C
Being Lou does sort of quiet any anxiety on the subject, you're right.

But flipping assets seems like a really good way to get diminishing returns, looking at the Miller trade sequence, or even Horvat to a greater extent.

How has Ryan O'Reilly looked this year?

I actually really like him as a 2nd line centre. He shouldn’t be asked to do the heavy lifting for an entire game. Shelter his minutes during the regular season and you can ramp him back up for the playoffs.

I think his contract is great too.

How has Ryan O'Reilly looked this year?

I was trying to figure out some possible top six C targets from teams that may be looking to sell - Pavel Zacha or Charlie Coyle, Teuvo Teravainen, Ryan O’Reilly, Brayden Schenn, Dylan Cozens (a lot more costly)…

O’Reilly would be the one out of that group that could probably handle big matchup and defensive minutes.

islanders have a Swedish prospect named Dennis Good Bogg so he better be coming back

Also holy shit, Islanders have to be worst drafting franchise in NHL history.

- Pettersson started getting tendinitis last year
- played through it during 2nd half and playoffs
- he thought the best action was to rest through the summer and not overly train
If this was the case he got some really bad advice from his trainers.

Other option is that his knee got so bad that they just could not get it undercontrol during the summer.
-came to camp not in the best shape and of course no leg strength from lack of training ( pissed off Miller)
- cant gain that strength training during the season
- unsure if he is still going through tendinitis
- will need a full off-season of training to get back to where he was

Are we going to be patient enough to let him do that, or are we gonna off-load him and watch him flourish elsewhere.

Have we considered acquiring a solid centre but shifting Pete to the wing? Maybe help get his offense back. Heck I'd be down to try him on Chytils wing.

It’s a possibility and has been done before. Ferraro has talked about how doing this can help centres get out of funks because it simplifies the game so much.

Big issue is finding another centre. Although if you could get an O’Reilly-type as a temporary solution, that could work.

It’s a nice thought. Usually when the rumours become this specific there’s something to them. Boeser doesn’t the Islanders MO, though.
You never know, Horvat could sell Lou Lam on Boeser.

EP40 & Boeser for Barzal & Dobson as a basis works.

Too bad about Norris' shoulder, I don't see him here if it's as bad as they say, but Dobson would be a good fit for the Sens with Norris and another player coming back.

Dallas could use a player like Dobson…

I don’t think they do. Already have Heiskanen, Harley, and Lundkvist to run the power play.

It’s possible they look at their defensive core and want a right side threat but his greatest asset is power play utility and that’s muted there.

Sens (&sabres) dont need Dobson at all, either do we though..

So it's gotta be more than dobson and barzal is the most attractive piece but then we have no Centers, and NYI have Nelson, horvat, & EP, makes no sense either.

3rd team has to be in the mix but which one and for who is hard to guess.

Dobson is not simply a PP specialist. He’s a puck top 4 moving RHD who is still under team control after this season.

by my count the Canucks have 3 top 4 d-men. The one missing is a RHD…..

However I’m not sure I see the trade lining up. It would seemingly have to be Pettersson+ for Barzal+Dobson. However, Barzal is LTIR as is Dobson and I don’t believe the Canucks are ready to say but bye to the playoffs. I’m not sure what else the Isles could offer that allows the Canucks to flip something to get the C depth.

This seems to make more sense in the off season.

If you consider the Canucks have a problem with Non-Hughes minutes, Dobson handling the other half of the high leverage minutes makes a lot of sense.

But for Pettersson? Who is going to play center? You're just going to get Dobson to trade him? No thanks. I can imagine some sort of package involving Willander and Boeser or something.
