The thing is, what do you project EP40 to be in the coming season and beyond? "Resume" and "proved in the past" are all moot if you don't believe he can ever get back to that level. That is the dilemma. It is interesting reading all the takes on Pettersson and watching his play thus far this season. Is he a disappointment this year? 100% he is. Should he be trade for the best package Vancouver can get before July 1st? This I would not do unless the return is something that you can not turn down. Canucks (and next few years are win now mode or they risk losing Hughes. In any trade you are not receiving back a player with Ep40s resume. He has proved in the past of what he is capable of and in no trade are you getting a player of EP40's ilk back and any draft pick in 4-5 years of having an impact.
The interview with Allvin last night and Riccio asking him about EP40 (paraphrasing here), "Pettersson was humble in coming to talk with us and asking for help". Maybe EP40 has understood (finally) on what it takes to be a consistent star in the NHL and his lack of preparedness coming into this year and then all the drama has spiraled him. I am hoping the 4 Nations can jump start him and and a committed effort in his training brings back the EP40 we all love. Any trade we make, we will lose as we will not get a player like EP40 was 1.5 years ago. anyway, my 2 bits.
Cheers

- Canucks are signing too many guys to term and then trading them too fast; getting a bad reputation; one or two times is okay but doing it way too much
- Has a full NTC
- Not sure if it’s an easy contract to move
I think Brock on a 8 year term is scary. 5 years makes the most sense for us and probably not for him so if we trade him, that’s probably the main reason and not that we don’t have the right center for him.I really hope they trade Boeser.
Love the guy but we don't have a center that can unlock his capabilities. In addition to that, I don't see his game aging well... he needs to be on a fast team that can masquerade his foot speed. We need play drivers and we know he definitely isn't that. Allvin's comments on "evaluating" is really just posturing in my opinion. Unless we get him at a huge discount like $7.5 x 6 years, I don't think we should be signing that contract.
Would look to get a top nine forward, first round pick and a mid prospect or pick. Some packages that could make sense to me...
WSH: 1st + 3rd + Mangiapane
CBJ: 1st + 3rd + Kuraly/Olivier
Min: 1st + 3rd + Hartman
NYI: 1st + 3rd + Duclair
Not sure why Montreal would want to give up on him.Seeing the emergence of Dylan Strome in Washington, I wonder if a similar development can happen with Kirby Dach? Both tall rangy centers that were drafted high due to their potential. Both had a bit of an injury issues early in their career (Dach more so it seems like). Both underachieved with the team that drafted them, moved on to a second team and underachieved there too. But by the 3rd team Strome has got over his injury issues and all the pressure of a high pick has been removed, he was given top 6 mins with some good offensive player and finally flourished.
Does Dach have that kind of potential, and can we buy low on him? It’s a very long shot but if he works out similar to Strome, that would go a long way to solving our 1C issue. Dach is around the age that Strome was when he went to Washington, there are some similarities in their situations.
Strome showed glimpses of being a top line center. Dach is not a good hockey player imo.Seeing the emergence of Dylan Strome in Washington, I wonder if a similar development can happen with Kirby Dach? No worries my next tier is rakell / nyquist / Karlsson.
And if thats still to high then perhaps eklund, Grundstrom or sundqvist.

Remember how nobody knew Dickinson was injured until we shipped him to Chicago.
Or nobody on the team knew the medical team was f***ing up Pearson’s injury.
6 yrs is my threshold. makes his last 2 yrs as a 32-33 yr old probably pretty poor but we have nothing for top end talent anymore up front if we move off him and shopping in the UFA market there are only 2 clear upgrades and they are probably getting 14m and picking out of a Canadian market if they move on from their current teams.I think Brock on a 8 year term is scary. 5 years makes the most sense for us and probably not for him so if we trade him, that’s probably the main reason and not that we don’t have the right center for him.
FYI, Canucks currently have about 7.3m in cap space. They are in-line to have about 12.88m by the trade deadline.
This isn't true unless there's something I'm missing.Tom Willander & Elias Pettersson (D-Petey)
- Tom Willander will be signing with the Canucks when his season ends in a few weeks
Did you miss the big trade that just happened? It’s NHL Friday afternoon blockbuster time!!!
We have to find our Kesler and Burrows
yes that's why we are so screwedHaha Miller was sort of...our Kesler was he not?
But more importantly we need Pete to start playing like he's worth the price tag.
