Robert Thomas is criminally underrated and is on a pretty sweet contract. Why in the hell would they trade for a headcase who is making 3.5 mil more? Further to that, why would they add Holloway?

It's time to readjust our expectations for an EP40 return now. You are maybe looking at a JT Miller-like return due to the god awful contract.

You've had some weird takes lately but this is among the worst. I'm not even a fan of Hronek but he's been excellent this season (specifically his positioning and hockey IQ) and his contract is very good given the rising cap.
we'll see. Can check back in 3-4 yrs and see what you think. The cap increases will make my point moot hopefully but players like Hronek are often the ones that drop most steeply when they get to 30.

His shot is a cannon but inaccurate his first pass is mediocre he's smallish and his shoulder is already becoming a problem. This team could stand to have some better personalities on it than another stand offish Euro that relies so heavily on his athleticism vs being cerebral.

First year he couldn't even play. 2nd was outstanding with Hughes until the 2nd half where he wasn't very good and did F all the playoffs. This year has been yet another write off with another shoulder injury. Durability is a skill

He's a good #2/3 i'm not saying that but he's far from a good top pair guy and Dobson still has that potential if he can round out his defensive game. I would absolutely look to move off him for younger better players while he still has big value

Hronek is 2 yrs older and is all tools no toolbox. His contract sucks. Not today but the last 3yrs are downright scary and we should be trying to worm out of that. Especially with his bummed shoulde. rDobson im not sure what the ask is but it must be really high if they are looking at moving him. Maybe that's why were hearing his name but he's a serious upgrade with a chance to get more prime years
hronek is a competent top pair dman. he is nowhere near all tools no toolbox. that's a term reserved for a gudbranson.

as for aging, i can see injuries breaking hronek down. he plays very physical for his size and already has shoulder problems. but that would not be a toolbox issue. his toolbox would be fine but his tools would be worn out.

It's not going to be that bad because of his age. It won't be great, but better than the Miller return

ok, you were just using the wrong terminology. that is not a tools/no toolbox situation. guys like that are big physically talented players who end up as bottom pair players due to hockey iq limitations. that's not hronek. that expression was apparently coined by harry neal in relation to michelle petit, a big physical toolsy dman who could not process the game well enough to be the top pair dman he was drafted to be and who eventually carved out a good career playing a simple game in a supporting role. petit actually wasn't that bad i think but he had a really goofy expresssion that fed that stereotype.

Massive caveat that Kypreos doesn't know shit. The most interesting name, among the big ticket players, is Pavel Buchnevich. Having a down year and, like Pettersson, doesn't have trade protection until July 1st.

I think you're both right.

Hronek is positionally sound, but his shoulder is a concern. His contract doesn't provide value right now, but should in the future. He ranges from a #3 Dman to a #4 Dman (imo), and can't carry his own pairing either offensively or defensively, but Dobson can carry his own pairing offensively. Therefore, Dobson is an upgrade.

Dobson hitting the market is all about his ES defense imo. He's too high event.

God it’s gotta be Dobson, if he’s available and we can swing it. This would be our Shea Theodore moment
I got all the time for Peterka too and we need a sniper

Not that I fully understand their process but that AFPanalytics that predicts contracts has Dobson coming in at 10.5.
