I like Ehlers a lot. Think he'd pair well with Petey, can carry the puck through the neutral zone, incredible on the PP. AFP's projected contract for him is 6 x $7.5M which I'd do in a heartbeat.
I wonder if Winnipeg would consider a Boeser for Ehlers swap at the deadline if they are told by Ehlers that he won't re-sign. Boeser probably wouldn't re-sign, but who knows, better chance than none.

1% chance is better than none.

i think realistically teams will go to players and say hey here is the comparable in terms of cap% and this is what we are going to give you. I imagine for someone who has not gone PPG, 8-8.5M is probably where they sit cap% wise. Really bad napkin math, like probably 7.5M for wingers below PPG in the flat cap world. 8.5M would be like a 15% increase which is reasonable, you can argue it should be 20% increase and that could be more realistic. But 12M is like almost double, that's not going to happen with guys like Ehlers.

For starters, Ehlers is a point per game player.

He's been playing 3rd line ice time and limited power play time in Winnipeg the last couple of seasons and that has dampened his numbers. He's generating 2.51 even strength points / 60 over the last 3 seasons. Thats 17th in the league and almost the same as Pettersson. JT Miller has generated 2.11 even strength points / 60.

If he was a center I'd be trying to trade him for Pettersson 1 for 1 right now.

I like Dobson but it seems that aside from future contract demands he's not very good defensively. So if he's not putting up great offensive totals he's going to be overpaid.

He’s also a good playmaker on the PP. Would absolutely take him on the team.

Dobson makes no sense for this team. Assume he would cost Pettersson or Willander, neither of which makes sense for this team. Guess if Lou was going to do something nuts like Barzal and Dobson for Pettersson, sure, but otherwise you have too much cap spent on the defense with no path to improving the offence.

TO VAN:

Barzal
Dobson

TO NYI

Pettersson
Soucy
Mynio

Who says no?

It’s a shame Ekblad probably won’t leave tax free Florida as a FA this summer. Would be cool to go into a season with wtf that’s good D for once.

Hughes-Ekblad
Pettersson-Hronek
Pettersson-Myers
Forbort

Hughes 25
Hronek 27
Pettersson 28
Ekblad 28

How about something like:
To New York Islanders - Boeser (with extension in place), Soucy & 3rd round pick
To Vancouver - Noah Dobson & Pierre Engvall

Imagine this defence:

Hughes - Hronek
Marcus Petterson - Dobson
D/Petey/Forbort/Cheap LD - Chaos Giraffe

Trade Willander for a stud forward.

almost any nhl wing can get 20 goals and 50 points if given top line minutes and top power play opportunity. boeser brings NOTHING else. that's replacement level
I don't think you know what 'replacement level' means. Certainty we've seen many "any NHL wing" typed shoved into the top 6 in the past and failed to produce.

20 goals and 50 points has been Boeser's bare minimum baseline. That's good, reliable top 6 scoring! Not replacement. That baseline is Conor Garland's career best so far lol.

PDG, Mikheyev, Lafferty, etc have all had extended stays in the Canucks top 6 and failed to accomplish anything. Kuzmenko had one great season and is now to his third team...

Boeser
  • Has been told negotiations are still quiet
  • Some think the Canucks might keep him for a playoff run
  • Thinks the Canucks want Boeser at a 5-6 year term
O’Connor
  • Teams in the East were trying to trade for him
  • Going to try and re-sign him
Lankinen
  • Very quiet with him

He has never been a PPG player until maybe this season. I say maybe because he is currently 1 point over PPG.

You can rationalize oh he doesn't get enough minutes and all that but at the end of the day, the best you can do is maybe argue that he's a PPG winger that has a bad playoff record. He hasn't even hit 30 goals yet so you can't even argue yet he is a 30 goal scorer. So far in the existing flatish cap world, those players don't get more than 7.5M, if they do, who is the comparable? The closest comparable i find is Hagel and he's at 6.5M but I guess that is lowered by the term. So I think something around 7ish in a flat cap world is a pretty reasonable assumption. Cap is going up by like 30% in 2 years, so i guess aggressively you can argue he should get 9, that's still like way below what you are suggesting which is 12.

He’s talking about Noah Dobson. Not sure how credible he is but he does have a large following.

He's a crude and crass Eklund (E4!) style rumour monger and has been doing it since the dawn of twitter. He is plugged in a little with the Isles though.

Wonder what the Canucks would offer. Horvat talking up Boeser? I don't think Lou would trade for Pettersson.

If Demko shows better it's very likely we don't keep Lankinen. The cap might be better spent on better forwards a somewhat reliable backup at like 2M range.

i think the scouting community is organizing an informal get together under the guise of work.
I'd do that for a Calli/Philly road trip.

hey what's Couturier's underlying numbers like? 5 years left at 7, but does he make sense with retained salary? I understand Torts is trying to bully him off the team.

i thought this scenario looked familiar and so i checked. yes, it is:

i think i would do that for like every nhl city that is not winnipeg and salt lake city.

these are all replacement level players

at his best boeser is a very good winger but at his worst he's in that group. i'm not saying he's trash and he needs to go i just think any team committing to him for 5+ years is going to regret it hard
